Hi. Can we clear the question that if you remove the cat and put straight through pipe in its place will it pass the MOT? Some of you say it WILL pass and some say it WONT. What is the truth? I am totally confused. Please confirm someone Please.

It depends on the date of first registration, before a certain date it will go through the MOT, after it won't. Somewhere in here the date is 'posted'

Post Aug 1992 Cat required.

On 1 January 1996 petrol engine vehicles equipped with catalytic converters and registered after 1 August 1992 became subject to the new CAT emissions test as part of the MoT. Only Green MoT stations may carry out these tests. Those vehicles registered prior to 1 August 1992 fitted with CATs are not subject to the MoT CAT emissions test. There are some vehicles registered during 1993 and 1994 which may not be catalyst equipped.

Post that date the cars have to pass the Cat emissions test. That doesn't mean the car has to have a Cat - it just has to pass the test
