i am bleeding my brakes for the first time. done it on numerous other cars without problem. have a bleeding hose with one way valve to stop air being sucked back in. Renewing with new bottle of DOT4 from halfords, assume system is currently filled with dot4.

anyway, i am on the first wheel, rear drivers side and i have done a few runs through with topping up the reservior and creamy fluid tends to come out half way through purging. i am putting it into glass jar and it looks like a pint of bitter with a creamy head!!

what is this stuff? is it normal? what am i doing run because this sutff keeps coming through??

Sounds like air and possibly some moisture in the fluid?

How much have you bled through - and isn't the N/S/R the furthest point in the system (one you should do first?)

leave it for a bit to see if this white stuff settles
may just be fine air bubbles

bleed about 5-7 resevoirs through. the annoying thing is that it take so little fluid with the overflow weirs and stuff and it doesnt spill over the old bad stuff. i reckon when you are bleeding you purge 70% of the new stuff and only 30% of the old.

i will give it a break now while it is raining but little air bubbles in suspension sounds about right. should it keep going until it is clear? should i put the reservoir cap on everytime? should i go below the min. mark on the resevoir - i was told this wrecks the slave cylinder but it seems the only way to get rid of the old stuff??

Use a pressure bleeder. mine is a gunson easy bleed. Does the whole car in less than 15 minutes, then just top up the tyre pressure whichever wheel you used or you could have used your spare. Anyway, the cream is moisture and you do purge 99% of it when bleeding if you use a pressure bleeder. Mine takes 500ml per fill so to change brake fluid for new, i put 500ml per caliper through the rear and 250ml per caliper for the fronts. You will see what comes out turn from horrible to new in the tube and that tube doesn;t need any one way valves or leaving under the surface of liquid in the bottom of the overflow jar, the new fluid is being forced through at around 25 Psi so the tube off the bleed nipple is just a waste outlet.

Seriously, once you know all 4 bleed nipples are loose and will not snap, it's a 15 minute job and it's 99% new fluid.

Gunson easy bleed is 15 quid at most motorfactors.

Hope this helps
