I have brand new OTG, which I got from Nick. I've also got the new sensor and wiring.
Oddly enough, my car was never fitted with one.
It has been stashed away for a long time now, but the notion came on me yesterday to fit it.
After extracting the cluster, which I'm certain, has never been done before, (not even for a bulb) I struggled to get the speedometer cable released but eventually succeeded.
Then I discovered it was impossible to get the cluster right out, without removing the steering wheel, so I did that too
In my ignorance, I thought all I had to do was plug it in, but no, the cluster looked like it had to be separated. By this time I knew I was out of my depth, so I abandoned the idea. :(
Now I can’t get the speedometer cable attached to the cluster. There is not enough slack on the cable to get it within reach of the Speedo head. :'(

Can anyone tell me where I’m going wrong, please?

Well, you need to have a dash cluster with the OTG aperture in the bottom, with which to push the new OTG unit through. then screw it in at the back.

To get the speedo cable re-attached, make sure all the electrical connections are ok, and slowly push the cluster back in with one hand, and with the other up behind the cluster guide the cable onto the stalk at the back of the speedo. slow and steady...
Keep pushing all the way back until the unit is in its correct position, and try and screw the ring around the cable back over the stalk.
It is important to get the cable over the end properly, as it is easy to miss.

i hope this helps mate.

Tim ;)

By the way you didn't have to remove the steering wheel to get the unit out, you can slide it out from the side with a little bit of twisting.
have you taken off the heater hose the fat one ,it is easier to reach the speedo cable fixing with it out.
Hope that helps
Barrie.

You can use your existing cluster Michael, but you will need to drill it. There hollow is there on every cluster, but on cars not specced with an OTG, its just covered with a black plastic strip. You basically need to drill two holes in that plastic to open up the hole. Don't worry if it doesn't look too neat as the OTG will cover all of that once fitted.

But Michael, have you taken into account your power/ignition/lighting feeds for the OTG? as you will need these.

Thanks Tim. :D
My cluster doesn't have the slot for the otg. :'(
It seems then, that the cluster must be fully back in position before I can attempt to line up the cable. :ermm:

I tried that, but I didn't want to risk scratching the dash

Removing the wheel was easy, thankfully. :D

If I can get the speede cable connected, I think that will do me, as getting power and light to the unit, is way beyond my capabilities.

I'll just put this one on the "Don't Do It List".

No worries :D
Tip: make sure you line the cable up as you push it back, as its easy to miss, and the cable is not flexible enough to manoeuvre on with the cluster in place. ;)

I tried and failed. Impossible for me to do, so a quick run into Merc-Tech, Darren had it done it two minutes. :D

I had some success though, I was able to remove the door card on the CLK55 AMG and replace the goofy memory seat switch. :D
