I've C/P'ed this from another forum I posted on. Yesterday I became the proud owner of a 1985 190E mk2 Mercedes Benz. It's had a LOT of work done to it recently including refurbished alloys, whole new paint job, an attempt to make it look Cosworth-esque, replaced head, new exhaust and millions more. I'll get round to posting a comprehensive list of the work done. Anyway, I'm Stephen, I'm 20 years of age, I'm from Fife, Scotland and I love my new motor. I've found this site useful already (having had a quick browse) and look forward to contributing and benefiting from this forum Anyway, here's a few photos, let me know what you think. The missing wheelcaps are now on, for anyone with an eye for detail! I'm going to give it a proper polish and what not today before taking anymore photos, these are the ones that I saw before I went to buy the car, really don't do it justice at all! And here are the photos I took myself (attached), not great, hoping to get a few better examples! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A few little niggles have came up, if this is all that's wrong with the car, for the price I paid I'm more than happy, but I want to fix them regardless: 1. The window wiper seems to "stall" on occassion. 2. When indicating, one of them (left I *think*, I'll double check) doesn't come up on the dash - but the lights are working on the outside perfectly. 3. I feel a bit daft here as I don't know if it's me not being able to figure out how to turn them on or if they actually don't work, but, the dash lights don't seem to work. I think I've tried all the obvious things but to no success. Can anyone confirm how these are supposed to come on? I thought it was the little knobs at the front of the dash - but those seem to be for changing the clock and resetting the odometer? Anyway, are these all related through one of the fuses? Or have I just got three seperate problems on my hands?! The wiper is okay, but it just seems to stick sometimes before moving like it should. It's better when its on fast - infact it doesn't do it, but if I do it once it seems to hesitate mid way. The indicator light is annoying if nothing else. And the dash lights are a must fix for me as I'm surrounded by speed cameras and do a lot of night driving. I've upgraded from a BMW Compact 1.6 so I feel like I'm doing 50 when I'm going 80 in the Merc! Any ideas or confirmations much appreciated! |

I actually had a wee fiddle with the dash earlier and the dash light came on - I wasn't sure how I did it, but just confirmed your information there (although its fairly light now!) and that is indeed the sollution. Thank you very much

welcome to the site great to have another scottish boy on board your indicator could be the bulb has gone you will need to take the clocks out to do this - take out the vent surround on the right and reach behind and star undoing stuff mostly plugs but unscrew the speedo cable and it should just pull out wiper prob like mine needs some oil on the wee shaft soak in wd40 sorted mine now enjoy |

Aye I reckon it's a bulb also, will get round to sorting this soon. Other one is fine, not a big deal but it's one of those one's you know is there and it'll annoy ya till you do something about it! I'll give it a drowning with WD40 and see how I get on, although I'm thinking the blade itself might be too big, looks a bit of a tight squeeze, but never had a single wiper before so I'll try stick to the "try the cheapest thing first" theory! |

Welcome. It does sound like the bulb has gone for the indicator, pull the clocks out, shove your hand around the back so you can undoo the speedo cable then you can pull it out further and release the millions of wires on the back of the clock unit. |

Aww shucks, thanks! Absolutely cannot believe the prices these cars go for, I'd have guesstimated a few grand for what I got and having seen others on this forum, I'd only have been put off further by assumptions. Best kept secret indeed! Absolutely love what you've done with the grill there mate, noticed someone else had done something similar but with a massive merc badge in the middle. These custom jobs or alternatives from MB? |

Hello and welcome What a stunning car. Being an 85 would make it a pre facelift, ie Mk1. But that doesnt make any difference as its now a superb 16v look alike Stu |

Rich, Bart, Rhys, Snake, Johnboy, Mr. HPW, Weyrmaster, SJ, Blueblack, Stwat, Carberry - thanks all very much for your kind comments and welcomes. I think I've got a lot of car for £900! Snake: Yeah I like the Northern Irish plate, just wish it was a MBZ one! Can't have it all though. Nice tatt by the way. Stwat: It's a Mk2 on the V5? Whats the facelift options? |

The facelift came in around mid 88. It had the lower door panels(sacco boards) bigger front and rear bumpers(the front bumper was essentially the same as the 2.6 which was bigger to accommodate the bigger rad. The facelift cars adopted this bumper) upgraded interior with better seats, carpets and adjustable seat belt height in the front. The rear seat bench was also altered to give better leg room for rear seat passengers. I'm sure there were more up grades i cant think of at the moment. Stu Edited by stwat, Wed Jun 24, 2009 5:02 pm.
