Knocking noise when going around a left hand bend

I had the front tyres replaced on my 190E today, que a few hours on, and every time I go around a left hand bend there is a loud knocking noise coming from somewhere up front, it's only when I go around a left hand bend though. oh but if I go very slowly around a left hand bend, I can't hear it.

It's not the ball joints, and everything seems secure (checked all the suspension joints and nothing looks out of place) what on earth is it?

They have put the wrong shape balance weight on the rim. Take it back. You need the flat weight not the wedge which catches on the brakes

I'll check, but IIRC it was O.K coming from back from the tyre depot, and it is only happening when the load is on the right hand wheel (turning left)

Also, but It might be irrelevant, the top steering collum bush has been creaking for a while, could it be a steering collum bush?

No, at the moment I am back in Southampton.

It was a very popular tyre depot just outside Winchester, which normally gives great customer service.

Wondering if to take the wheel off tomorrow and have a look.

Does the 190E have CV joints up front? it's correct wheel drive after all.

I have had the same issue three times in the last year. Only happens when you turn into the wheel, The weight knocks on the brake because it is too fat for the small space on the inside of the alloy, A flat glued weight is the right one not the wedge.

Just been out and had a look, the wheel weights are a clip on the edge of the inside rim type. I can't see because I am tired, but it looks like it has been rubbing against something. Also, there is very little clearance between the damper casing and the edge of the wheel.

no, no cv joints up front. Just me being daft i appologise. Its probably the weight on the rim if your spacing isnt correct.

Big thankyou to AEMT, I couldn't see how it was a wheel weight at first, but I went outside late last night armed with a Halfords Torch, and it was definitely the wheel weight.

Took it back to tyre depot this morning, they changed it for a sticky weight with no fuss. Noise now stopped :D

Many thanks!

Matt.
