Decent car shampoo is worth the money imo, there are a few reasonably priced ones.
I use Auto Glym (AG) stuff, but I know there are plenty of other great shampoos out there, Turtle Wax etc.

Microfibre (MF) cloths really are a revelation imo, mainly used for;
- Buffing Paintwork after you've applied Wax or Polish
- Polishing Glass, can be used in conjunction with Windolene, etc.
- Wiping down Plastic & Vinyl Trim after using a deep-cleaning/restoring product.
I use bog-standard Halfords ones, and they're fine.
You can machine wash them, and the dark blue (coarse) one is great for wheels and engine bay.
I keep the fine pale blue one in the car for wiping down the interior plastics.
I do have one Meguiar's Gold Class MF cloth, and it is noticeably thicker and softer. I reserve it for final buffing after Wax.

Depending on the condition of your paint and trim, you might find it useful to Clay the paint before using a good starter Polish product like AG Super Resin Polish.
Have a look on the forum 'Detailing World', but be warned - the results are so impressive, your wallet might catch fire...

Some great advice in this thread ;)

I agree with Neil on the car shampoo advice.
The better quality you go then the longer between waxing! ;)
Sometimes I can go forever without being able to wax the car due to working etc
I use the top-end turtlewax shampoo and after several washes the shine builds up.

Auto Glym or Meguiars??

Right now I'm using ArmorAll Wash and Wax. And I'm trying to use all the products from one name.

As polish I use Auto Glym. The rest is all ArmorAll. And I really wish to change everything to Auto Glym.

Anyone can post me a link that shows me all the range of Auto Glym please?

Meguiars, End of!

I use their stuff from nearly every range they offer and also their trade products (they supply the plastic polish to the RAF for polishing the jet canopies)

There is no point spending a fortune on polish and waxes etc if you're not fully intending on following it through and rubbing grit etc into the paint, so be prepared to shell out on an extra bucket and a deep pile mictofibre wash mitt and use the two bucket technique, suds in one bucket, clean mitt rinse in the other. It takes a bit of getting used to but once you see the crud in the rinse bucket you'll stop thinking its so silly.

Good luck and be warned, detailing becomes addictive.

Fully agree with Richie. It is as much about the technique as the product. Remove as much crud as posible by hosing and wet brushing before you let a cloth near the bodywork. Then use double buckets and finally rinse off with a hose before you get the polishing cloths out.

I use Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish Stage 2 as a polish and wholeheartedly recommend Collinite 476s Auto Wax.

Claying pulls all the bonded contaminants out of the paint using a mild abrasive action.
The sort of horrible nasty sh!t that comes down in the rain and adheres itself to the paint, making it feel rough & gritty.
It's a step you would take after washing, prior to polishing.

There are various grades of Clay, some more aggressive than others.
Sonus 'Green' seems to be a popular starter clay, along with the Meguiar's kit.
You need to use a 'Quick Detailer' product as a lubricant.
It's quite time consuming, but a few folk on here have done it.
