Got to be, even if they fit both sides, Merc did it to cover all parts separately. :)

I love offset.

Both are the same length, but when I got my new set of arms from GSF I noticed the joints on the drivers side were of a different metal/coating on them.

The only reason I can see for this is some form of heat shield for the joint from the exhaust?
But otherwise they are the same length etc

Middle of the left three, with the silvery caps:

yes ones the left and ones the right and interestingly you need to switch them round if you have a left hooker

however there is no difference between the 2 that i can see, well the new one is black and they new old stock is green but thats it.

I think the thread will be the same on both wouldn't it? Actually, isn't there a different hand thread in each end?

Not messed with one of these in a while.

Don't know why....but my 2.6 Sportline had new genuine M-B tie rods two years ago. Checked the invoice and the part numbers are exactly the same as yours. I suspect they will be left and right, as previously suggested. Sorry, no idea which one's which, or if they're different. However, a phone call to your M-B parts dept with the part # will soon tell you.

Those part numbers are shown on the russian I.P.C the 503 for the left and 603 right I would install

in those positions.

We know the positions and all that its just that, having having measured both the rods with very accurate tools, checked the threads with thread gauges, and subjected them to extreme scrutiny (I have a degree in aeronautical engineering!) we are buggered if we can find a difference!!

The pivot angle of the balljoints is different left to right to compensate for the height variations of the pitman arm and idler arm assemblies,IIRC it is only a 2degree difference.

I'm pretty sure its all about the opposite thread on one side and making sure the locknut is mounted toward the steering knuckle arm as stated in the pic above. If you switch them round, the threads and locknuts would be the wrong way round.

There are several reasons why part numbers vary for a similar part.

1. Right & Left handed.
2. Different supplier used on later produced parts.
3. Modified part.
4. A part numbering system error, not too common.

Also it was common for Right hand parts to end in an even number or have an even number within the part number indicating it was a right hand part and an uneven number for the Left.
