Welcome to the forum.

That price range will get you an example of most models apart from the 16v (cosworth) models.

If insurance is a problem due to age then a nice 2.0 sportline or something, if thats not a worry I heartily recommend a 2.6. It depends what your after really. Cheap insurance, better mpg, more sporty, more luxury. The 190 range has it all :)

What kind of cars have you generally gone for before ? Luxury, sporty, manky :P

They stopped production around 92/93 unfortunately.

You have certainly come to the right website for all your 190 needs.

Good luck with the search and if you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask :)

Welcome to the forum mate. You need to do some study on here to make sure you dont buy a rust bucket. You may need to go to the high end of your spending range to get a good one, But it will be worth it. Enjoy

€1350 is £1160 at todays rate.

Probably slightly more when you got yours.

Lol cheers Phil though she's not that mint in person, bit of an aquired taste/work in progress I guess!

But a big welcome to surreyboy, and good luck in the search.

Best bit of advice I guess is view many as possible and hold out for the right one. You guys are very lucky in that you have a big selection of them over there :)

My 89' 2.0 was approx £1100, and that was very clean when I got it.. so you should find something very good for your budget. Just a few months ago a member let go a MINT freshened 2.0E for silly money, so stick around you might get a bargain!

Welcome aboard matey, you'll have fun here, you'll get a lovely car, you'll care for it a lot. But you'll annoy your other half if/as and when you get properly hooked.

Then you'll blame it on us, and we'll support you. ;)

That's how it normally goes down.
Any questions, please feel free to ask anyone - we're a very happy crew here.

The 149,000-mile 2.0 (in Smoke Silver I think) looks really very nice indeed, if it all stacks up I think £1100 is about the lowest the seller would go.

The 72,000-mile Sportline is worth the asking price all day long imo, though if you could snag it for a grand you'd be a very happy boy...

Hi Neil
i like the both lol
with the 72k one,the thing thats puts me off is no service history, and how true is the mileage?
also he says that its got a few small dents, and a few marks too
It dont seem bad for the year
Though my wife does not like blue lol

With 149k one,is the high mileage a issue? though it does look a really nice car,no dents, very clean and seems
well looked after, i use to drive 190s back in the late 80s,and thought how nice they were.

I have had a very good offer accepted on the 72k one,on the other one hes looking for 1k but said if push come to shove he will do a deal,so im thinking that he will take £900

At the moment im thinking of going with the 149k one.
If i got them both my wife would go mad lol

149k is neither an issue, or high mileage.
10k a year is average, but these cars will do much, much more.

Service History is a personal thing, it either bothers you or it doesn't.
If you're equipped to service these cars yourself, then you are in a good position to barter hard and snag a bargain.

If you don't steal that Sportline for £900, I bet somebody else on here will ;)

Both really nice cars tbh, it's a dilemma alright.

Hey and welcome.

Cant really tell from the pics mate. Different cars had different specs ( air con, cruise, leather etc)
If it had air con, there would be an extra slider on with the heater controls.

Looks a nice car though.
Go for it....you know you want it!!!!!

Hi Skutter
i spoke to the guythis eveing nad we have agreed a price and will pick up the car on Monday
really looking forward to driving the car.
It will be my 1st Merc, i have driven them before in the late 1980s,they felt good then, but have never owned one.
Also my dad had one ,it was on a F plate. We sold it in 1994 after he died,we should have kept it .
Car does not come with air-con,which is no big deal.
Will post photos of the car when i can
Thanks for all your advice guys+ the warm welcome too
Just one more thing, any of you guys live in Surrey or South West London?
Cheers

Have you looked at or driven the car yet?

Have a good read of the buyers guide at the top of this section before you go and look at the car.

Please don't buy the car without first giving it a very thorough check over, using the buyers guide as an, erm, guide. Print it off if needed as its a lot to take in and remember.

^^ agree with stwat ^^, make sure you have a head full of knowledge, they arent really a minefield but there are a few basic things to check, jacking points for example. Dont be embarrassed to print out the guide and take it with you, buying a car is a big decision. I am less careful than most, in fact all my 190s (and there have been a few) have been bought unseen through ads and everyone has worked out excellent overall. But I factor that risk in the price.

There are some sw london members I am sure. I am nw london and there are certainly a few active members up here, always up for a gtg. And maybe even willing to head down that way :)

Our yearly gtg (retro car show) is coming up in 26 days. Always a great laugh.

Welcome to the forum!

With your budget you should be able to get a nice late model 190 with less than 100k on the clock, if you push towards the higher end of your budget. Don't rush though, 190s are really common so if you don't find one soon don't be disheartened because there are plenty out there.

Hi mate and welcome.
I am on my 3rd 190 so far.
The only regret is that none of them were a sportline!
The really are worth the extra!
Good luck choosing,
Stu.
PS that white AMG on autotrader looks fab and if I had 999 I would buy it. No doubts.

Hi
i got the car and im very pleased with it,it does need a good clean inside,
and will look like new, also the lacquer is coming off each wooden trim, and its the same on the glove box too
but to be honest i think its plastic,am i right it thinking that?
Should i try and clean them up,or try and get some from the breakers ?
Will try and get some photos up by the end of the week
Thanks for all your ,and i did print out the buyers guide which was of great help
Thanks again

Congratulations, Lee. That's a very nice car indeed.

The only real wood in these cars is the gear surround and heater surrounds and the ash tray. The other stuff is plastic stick on after market crap. Yours does have an after market wooden gear selector though.
