White 2009 C300 with red pinstripe. I can't decide how the pinstripe should run. Edited by MBidiot, Tue May 19, 2009 8:43 pm.

![]() I can't see how red would go anywhere on that car tbh.. (edit: maybe if the wheels where powdercoated closs white, the centre darker sections could be red, and so could the mirrors and a small lip spoiler the rear boot if it had one, and of course a serious ride height deduction...) Unless you had dayglo orange wing mirrors GTR style: ![]() But it would be odd on an otherwise standard car ![]() Edited by dave_irl, Tue May 19, 2009 9:41 pm.

I think the pinstripe is ripe for a renaissance, especially on new bland cars. The W204's pretty handsome and dynamic though, I like it - I also like all 3 of weneakhborz's ideas, but the one where it trails up the bonnet edge and then along under the side windows is probably the most modern take on it. Switch Red for Deep (Blood) Orange though

^ The blood orange colour suggestion is very cool but I am still in two minds maybe seeing it in the flesh would sway me although on an older retro car in white I would definitely say yes........ |

I think the second picture is ideal actually. I like how the stripe follows MB's new Ferraristic lateral line. There is no consequence to painting or repainting the C300 at this point. Any work done to the factory over-catalysed lemon-peel finish would be an improvement. I am actually particularly dissapointed by the factory paintwork, and doubt that the market will frown on re-painting, as it traditionally has on the better or previous models. I reluctantly say that a talented teenager could have done better paint work than the factory C300 finish. My optimistic hope for the car is that the paint will be a durable base for a better finish after it fully cures. For now, I am making a list of rattles and jingles to be looked into before the car reaches 2k miles. I cannot say I am impressed with the vehicle; it still remains to be seen if it will be a winner like the 190, or a three-year-throw-away. There are a number of things I like about the car, and I remember that even the 190 had some things I didn't care for. For Example, all the 190 aladine and zinc-chromate fastner's finishes failed during the first year, making the engine look bad, and I replaced all of it with 316 stainless. It is the same with the C300, nothing major or serious, just the 190 is a tough act to follow. C |

I like the second picture enough to proceed. I want the 2nd stripe thanks to weneakhborz' excellent art. What is the significance in "Dark Blood Orange" as color opposed to red? How should I proceed to get the stripe? should I zip out to the auto-store and do it myself; I'm quite good at these things. Or should I take it to the dealer body shop since its a brand new car? C |

Today is the day I will begin to address the lemon-peel issue on the C300. I've had the car now for nine months, so the paint should be cured enough to smooth out. I have noticed several other new cars with the same issue. Seriously, I've seen steel shelving with a similar finish. During the day of my 190, this type of finish was considered a paint defect. I'll let everyone know how it goes, if the paint is thick or thin etc and how it polishes out. c |

It seems like the lemon-peel is limited to the clear coat, and it is coming right out with minimun removal! |

At least the Vectra was actually made in Germany. I think the C300 might be a re-bodied 1984 chrysler Lebarron with a plastic mercedes emblem on it. No match for the 190 in my opinion. I have to get this car sorted out soon. Normally I go to the dealer for everything, but given the fact they delivered the car to me like this, I am doubting they will be willing to improve it. It's not up to typical mercedes standards. There is a Pro race shop in town, and by pro I do not mean to say merely a licenced business, but rather an expensive shop that builds cars for the pro racing circuit, has a high tech machine shop, dyno test center, component balancing, engineering, etc. They balaned an 11,000 rpm honda for me once, balanced the drive line on my cobra to run smooth at 160 mph on the track, have done PREMIUM work on some other carsof mine. I think they need to work on the C300. This particular shop has often made me so happy that tears form in my eyes. For example they can take a stock part that shakes itself to death and balance it to run clean at 11k rpm. Anyone would notice the difference. They balance everything, brake rotors drive shafts, wheels, pulleys; alot of people don't realize how poorly balanced are stock parts. Typically my mercedes cars have never needed this type of work; they came from the factory well balanced. The C300 runs more like a cheap car. It was supposed to be an improvement to the C-class, but at 2200 miles, i'm beginning to frown. My old 2000 CLK never had any of these issues. I think getting the vibrations out will solve most of the rattles. I also think if a German engineer rode in this car, he'd kick the emblem off the grille. I am half-expecting the problem is the with the air-pressure transponders the US government had forced companies to mount inside the rims. Do you guys have these in Europe? My list as follows: 1) buff lemon-peel out of factory finish 2) all four tires fail "road force" test: replace them 3) Wheels: remove 5-6 six inch strips of weights (1 lb?) scrap sensors, scrap wheels, whatever necessary to eliminate shaking. 4) Find rattle in right rear door. 5) Find rattle in speedometer. 6) Find rattle in rear differential. 7) Find rattle in front. 8) Find rattle in Transmission. 9) Re-balance all brake rotors C Edited by MBidiot, Wed Jun 3, 2009 6:21 am.
