The brass strips around the 190 look quite tasty but always look a little dull. How can I bring these out better? I have used crome polish but i dont see a noticeable difference. Are they actually brass - so would Brasso work better? |

yes,i have seen darker ones though..which started off black.just when you said the bronze started off black. i thought ours come from the factory that color.i get it now.i think. no wait.now im confused ok they came in different colors.but ive only ever seen . black. bronze. darker bronze. so if the the bronze started off black... what colors did they come in?.

The easiest way to tell roughly what colour it was new is to slide the piece to the side at the top of the rear screen surround, it will have escaped the fading of the rest. |

if you look at the center top of your rear screen trim you will see a small joint finishing tab. Slide it sideways a little and you will see the original colour of the trim i believe they all started life black in truth.LOL will teach me to start a reply and then go for a fag before sending

Just read this. No they didn't all start off in black . There are a number of different colours. Black, grey and bronze. Both my cars have the grey trims but my first 190 had the bronze trims. The grey and black trims seem to have a plastic coating. The bronze ones dont and are coloured metal. Some will tell you that the door handles, headlight wipers and windscreen wipers were all jet black from new. This is not the case as many, if not all, came with dark grey. The same as the front grill. |

I think (but might be wrong) that the 2.3-16 had a matt finish, whereas the 2.5-16 has a shinier finish. This may coincide with the 'facelift' changes on other models. |

Hi, Those trim strips are mostly brown/bronz coloured by Anodizing and shouldn't be polished as it wares the Anodizing off which makes them look lighter or faded, the lighter they are the more they have been polished, Not a good idea as Anodizing is a protective coat, incidently used a lot on aircraft building. Cheers Barrie. Ps It is the same with the paintwork that has clear laquer on they should also only be waxed but not polished as too much polishing takes the protective Laquer off.
