First You need to order one of these. Child and fast response fire truck not included.

Part No.

This is the bonnet after removing most of the sound proofing by hand

I used a drill with wire brush on low speed setting to remove the rest

This is what it looked like after wire brush and a quick run round with the hoover to pick up dust

This is the glue I used to attach the soundproofing. Yes it says for rigid materials, plastic & wood. But it is also suitable for foams according to spec sheet.

The job would be a lot easier with two people and the bonnet removed. But there was nobody arround on the day.
So it was a solo job. Offer the sheet up to your bonnet so that you will see it is a snugg fit and needs to be positioned properly from the outset other wise it will be crooked.
I started spraying from the bottom up. Sprayed about 12"s of the lower bonnet portion and attached the lower part of the sheet.
You need to work fastish as the glue sets fairly quickly. But You can lift and reset sheet for a short time. Be sure the lower section is straight before continuing.
Once happy the lower section is straight, I then worked up the bonnet in roughly 12" sections and attached the soudproofing untill finnished.

Result and also keeps that oil burner abit quieter too.

Hope this is of help

rhysmangatmotorsport , bought it a the local dealer here in Cork, Turners cross motors.
It does not come with glue. It was another board member Marv who put me on to the glue which I got from www.safetydirect.ie.
So all in it has cost about €90.

Not too bad

do they actually make much difference to a petrol car as im thinking about one now as it don't seem that hard he says knowing fine well it'll take him twice as long to fit and it'll still end up crooked lol

I managed to find a new one on a scrapper which was hanging right off. Used a similar sorta glue(carpet spray glue), and fitted it in a similar way.
Only prob i have is the glue gets soft with the heat off the engine, and the soundproofing has to be re-done every so often. Serves me right for using cheap glue i spose....lol!
It does make a difference on the 1.8 imo, can't really hear the engine when standing in front of the car, and it seems quieter inside too.
Thats my opinion for what it's worth anyway. :driver:

Temperature good to about 90c. That should be plenty.Have yet to feel a bonnet that hot on a road car unless it was on fire.

Just a quick update on how the glue is holding out. 3 week in and and it has not shown any problems, alot of traffic driving so plenty of heat generated, The glue is good, so I can recomend it.

That's a German 3.2 AMG. Haven't done mine yet was missing the plastic rivets I need for the leading edge and I mean the ones which you can see behind the Grill, they have though today finally after many false starts.

If anyone needs the part number for those extra large plastic rivets it's A 123 990 02 92 I was also told recently they are the same ones which hold the parcel shelf down behind the backrest.

Just added a picture of said troublesome rivet. You need 7 of them.

The insulation on the 2.6 Sportline is completely goosed, so I ordered one from Agnews and just when I was at it, I ordered one for the 2.5 16 (ex Will) as well. I also got the tin of the correct glue from them .

I'll have a go at doing the Sportline tomorrow, then I'll be an expert when I get round to doing the 2.5-16.
