At the moment I have 205, 45, 16's all round. They all need changing for the MOT. I don't like the 45's. They are too low. I also want to lower the contact rubber slightly for noise and better mpg. The back can take a taller tyre without fouling.

I want to put 195, 50, 16's on the front and 195, 55, 16's on the back.

Can I do this ? .(this is on my black 2.0)

Not 100% sure but i think you probably should be fine. I know you can get problems having wider tyres on the back than the front it can mess up the abs you should be okay though as its a small profile change.

That's whats worrying me.
I've been quoted 120 quid for 4 good quality part worns, but I've reserved the right to make him take them off if it looks daft.

The difference in radius between those tyres is barely 2cm so I don't think you would notice the size difference too much. The car is lowered and most of the arch gap will be gone anyway?

Your tyre profile's being different will affect the speedo reading slightly but it wont be much. I'm not sure if the speedo will read fast or slow though.

My first 190 had 205/55/15 on the rear and 205/50/15 on the front. I have no idea why and I didn't notice for ages. I didn't get any problems that I can recall.

I love offset.

The biggest issue will be ABS if your car has it, different wheel speeds will give it an error and the light will come on and you will have no ABS.

I'm currently running 215/40/16 on the front, and 185/65/15 on the back :D

Until I sort out my rear toe angles I might aswell go through the 3 pairs of steelies with perfect tyres I have.. and oh my are they serious fun in the wet. If Id known how much I would have put them on ages ago. When its raining I'm sideways!!

Yes it has ABS. Its a very well spech-ed 2 litre.

I'll take a test drive before I part with cash. If the ABS is confused I will take them off.

Cheers guys

ABS aint all that, I still havent gotten a new sensor for the LSD so I see that illuminated yellow box every day :P

Im pretty sure that you will have a problem though, even with just the difference between 50 and 55 profile!

I nearly totalled my 2.0d on the day I discovered (at speed) that it didnt have abs. If your brakes arent well balanced and you dont have abs then it really can be dangerous right at the point you need it.

im running bigger tyres on the back as im a cheap skate lol i had to change the fronts when i lowered the car but i had an almost new tyre on the back and the fronts still had decent tread so just been using them till they all go and i aint had any probs they are slightly thinner and a lower profile on the front

it does look a bit odd but increases the nose in the dirt look a of bit muscle car styling well that what i keep telling myself lol and i had no bother with them at the mot

I had different profiles on front and back with no ill effect for about a year.

ABS and ASD worked fine.

you can mix profiles no probs, but it's usually the lower pro will be at the back and not the front, this id due to more
weight being carried in the back..
