I went to fit my goodridge hoses today and I threaded them into the caliper first and they bottomed out, odd I thought...maybe they need a tweak as there was still a gap between the union and the caliper (the copper washer was loose) so I nipped them up and 'CRACK' the caliper cracked!!! I wasnt particularly forceful or anything but threads do transfer a lot of pressure. Not sure where I stand TBH as they are made to order. Anybody else had this happen? im gutted

Check them! I wound mine in by hand and they 'bottomed out' before the copper washer became pinched up, if yours do the same then dont attempt to go any further. I dont suppose you're able to upload a picture of the caliper end of your hoses? Mine are in my workshop and I cant upload pics from my iphone at the moment. |

Neither have I, my Mini, MG, my dads MGF, my old rangie and countless other sets ive fitted have never suffered this problem so it does sound like they have crimped the wrong ends on....shame its cost me a caliper though. |

Do you still have the old hoses so you can compare the length of the connections? |

I will be doing that first thing....it looks like they've put pluted ends on instead of the stubbier 'full thread' type. |

I feel like such an idiot, the problem was either my amazing strength or a flaw in the caliper, so no panic, the copper washer is what threw me, it isnt required. |

Do you mind explaining this a tad further, I think I suffered from to long thread syndrome on my last W201 hence the garage did not proceed to fit them, but now I am wiser and ask here. |

Just spotted i'd left this unanswered. The threaded portion on my hoses were too long, and they had supplied copper washers. so when I fitted them I thought I had to tighten them down to crush the washer, deforming the end of the hose...WRONG. the caliper burst and a lump of cash iron fell off. I now understand its the taper which does the sealing not the copper washer, that can go in the bin. I hope that makes sense. R. |

Ricky, were your old hoses seized? If how did you get around the problem? As I'm looking at fitting Goodridge hoses soon, reckon they have expanded inside not allowing reasonable braking under light pressure. |

There was nothing wrong with my old hoses, I just wanted to upgrade. I bought the goodridges but then smashed my caliper being an animal when tightening them. |
