I didn't know until very recently, that the the chamois is no longer the best way to dry your car off.

The best thing is a car towel, 3 of which I've just purchased, and there's no doubt about, they are the job. :D

Has anyone else used one?

I've not got the camera at hand , it's in the office, and I don't know if the towel has a brand name, but it's some job.

I'll post a photo tomorrow.

I use a microfibre flannel thing. 3 for a quid from a pound shop but they are seriously easy and quick.

I know no one will believe me, but ill tell you what works a treat... synthetic chamois! They work superbly, and are much cheaper!

I have a few of these LINK
The thing with chamois is that they have nowhere for fine dirt/grit to go, so you end up rubing it into the paint work. Best thing to do is 'pad' dry with a deep cotton soft towel.

Yep, nice big fluffy egyptian cotton towels stolen from hotels work best...apparently ;)

Synthetic chamois are v.absorbant but as mentioned above they hold the dirt against the surface and introduce micro scratches.

I'm still on the AG Synthetic Chamois meself, I open it out and 'drag-dry' every panel after thoroughly rinsing the car.
As the paint hasn't been corrected, I don't think I'm in much danger of introducing new, visible scratches.

Drying towels are definitely the Pro Detailer method though, the boys on DW often favour the Cobra Guzzler.

I love offset.

Yup, towelly is the way to go. I use some mega waffle weave microfibre towel thing I got from one of the online detailing shops. Much quicker than the chamois and then there is the paint protection thing too..

The best way to make the smal scratches less noticable is to dry the panels in one direction same when you apply polish etc it means any sctratches that are introduced are all in one direction which are less noticable that circular swirls. The micro fibre towels are certainly very good though!!

Microfibre all the way havent touch a chamois is years, only downside is you need a few when dealing with the 190.

..well some of you may find this blasphemes... but i really dont see any negative effects to it! (But some of you probably will give me some hehe)

Everytime i wash my car i use that... Mr. Clean car wash. Works great and you dont need to dry the car afterwards. The water all evaporates and leaves ZERO water marks on the car.

I've always been nervous to dry my car (Especially my first merc) with a towel or chamois, i always become extremely paranoid that there are tiny little rocks on the towel and i'm dragging it thru my paint! This Mr. Clean wash gives you the piece of mind that you wont be rubbing some sort of cloth thru your paint afterwards.

Anyone else use this stuff?

Towels for me too. I use old house towels ones that have been washed a few times as the new ones dont work to well.
No problems with scratching paint work either. never fancied chamois took too long and scrathed paint.
Got well water here (out in the sticks) and it has lime in it so if you dont dry off the car. It will have water marks on it.

Aqua Gleam. Ask any professional what they use and this is what they recommend. No Chamois or towelling required.

Ask Marcus!!
