Hey guys heres one to pick your brains, does a 190 have a filter for it's power steering system?
If so where does this go, and has anyone change it? Many thankx Robbie....

Yep, there is a cylindrical filter.

I changed mine last year. Literally unscrew the top off the reservoir, syphon off the oil, replace filter and top up.

Cheers Bri

Robbie,

all W201 have a filter for the power steering hydraulic fluid.
It is located at the bottom of the reservoir.
The filter and fluid should be changed each 60'km even if it's not part of the maintenance plan of the manufacturer (like to change the oil in the diff or the SLS).
I change oil and filter of the power steering on a regular basis.

regards,
Christian

I used a turkey baster to get the fluid out...

Was actually really easy.

I used a thin bendy tube and syphoned it out. Its quite a small amount, 1/3 pint or so ?, you could probably use kitchen roll if you ensure you dont leave bits of paper in there.

^^^ Really I thought all 190's had P/S actually I thought all mercedes passenger cars had P/S as standard from way back when and it was only some commercial vehicle into the eighties that it must have been an option on I remember driving a Mercedes 308 diesel with no power steering my whole upper body ached for a week after the first day I drove it the only other vehicle to exceed stiffness and amount of force needed to actually steer was my VW LT pre power steering upgrade

I think certain early 190's (maybe not sold here) didn't have PAS. some only had 4 speed manual boxes too...
