Hello Everyone, I'm calling on all and any photoshop guru to help me colour my coolant piping RED. I'm planning on giving my engine some colour and have decided on RED. ![]() Can anyone of you give all the hoses related to the engine's coolant system a red hue or change the black to red. Also, the plastic strip cover on the engine block that hides the H.T. leads should also go red, the oil cap and the black hose of the air conditioner.... Also, my exhaust manifold is coming off at the next service and I don't know what colour I should have it sprayed...any ideas? Red would be over the top or maybe not...? Furthermore, my seatbelts need to be renewed and I think red will go very nicely in that all black interior....and then finally, my brake calipers are going red too... Any further ideas....? Not for me i'm afraid, i think it makes the car look cheap and tacky under there. Leave it as it is. Just keep it clean under there (looks nice and clean under there as it is!) and it will look just fine. I have seen blude samco hoses under there, and it does look cool with the whole 16v image. But on a stock 8v, i'm afraid it's going to be a no from me. As for the exhaust manifold, either get it wrapped or spray it in high-temp silver. I would be inclined to get it wrapped. |

Red is cool, Ive gone blue...Normal 190 engine rocker covers can be polished or chromed same with your manifold, anyone who does chroming can sort this, Cosworth 2.3 & 2.5 rocker covers cant be chromed as it's made from Magnesium, I had mine polished to acheive that look. I understand your point of keeping things OEM and clean at that.... I little colour will however be good. If you keep the stock hoses, one can always return to OEM spec...my car is smoke silver and the red will look wicked....however, a blue theme, the same colour as in the "Sportline" insignia on the side of the car, will definitely look as if its "stock"... What is wrapped....? and also, what will these samco hoses? do they come in colours other than blue? |

I prefer black myself. A glossy black looks very nice. Still black but clearly upgraded. Its only a personal view but coloured reminds me of jap cars in halfords. It can look impressive but I just dont feel it suits a merc. Can you chrome the 8v valve covers ? I thought there is plastic involved somewhere ? I know the 2.6 is alu and can be polished but thought the 8v couldnt be, I can dig out a pic of my accidentally polished 12v if you like. My advice, if you polish it then lacquer it afterwards otherwise its more trouble than its worth. Edited by kentronix, Tue Jan 20, 2009 6:04 pm.

Question: If I were to rub some silicone (the same stuff that make our black bumpers shine) on my black hoses to make them shine, will it smell funny, degrade the hoses or eat away at them when they heat up? I'm a bit nervous to experiment....I mean this is my only set of wheels.... Edited by Silverfox, Tue Jan 20, 2009 6:18 pm.

I put tyre black stuff on mine once and they looked good, after the first run they went back pretty much to how they were. You could probably run self amalgamating tape around your existing hoses, I think thats what the outer layer of most silicone hoses is anyway ?? |

I'm with Kenny on the whole colours thing making it look a bit Halfords-esque. Blue Samco hoses would look good, out of the two. Exhaust wrapping is this: ![]() It needs to be done properly though. There is a step-by-step on the net as to how to do it properly. As well as it looking cool it will benefit the engine and result in slight performance gains. I learned recently (thanks Marcus!) that by the wrap holding the heat within the manifold it not only keeps the temperature in the engine bay cooler (and therfore the engine cooler) but it also charges the gasses coming out of the engine even more making them flow quicker out of your exhaust.

I agree with the wrap but the 4cylinder is a very different beast. Would look great on the 16v. |
