Missing My Rubber Bung Things.; What Are They ?

Had the Mot done on the car yesterday. The tester told me, and then showed me, that I have some rubber bung things missing.

They go underneath the car, I think behind the front wheels and are close to the sill. He showed me where they should be, mine were missing. All I could see was a big round hole where they had been, the hole was about 3 / 4 inches across I think.

I have been looking on the Russian site but have not been able to find them. What are these things and what are they for ? He told me I should replace them, he said I might get rust start to form without them.

If I can identify them and they are not too expensive I will get some. Any ideas, what are they and what are they called ?

Are these the jacking point rubbers? If so I've got the part number at home, they're about £2 each.

This was under the car...not on the side where you have the hole to insert the jack.

Hello Madmike
The parts you refer to are jacking point "bungs ". They are located under the car, one in each corner of the sills / floor pan, and are there should you wish to use a "trolley" jack. The Mercedes -Benz terminology is jacking "Plug" part number : MA201 997 00 86. In april last year I purchased some from the dealer, the price then was £2.15 each plus v.a.t. Make sure the locating point is free from corrosion before fitting. I sploshed loads of waxoyl into the ones on my car prior to inserting the new plugs. To date , no problems. Hope this helps,
best wishes,
Peter.
P.S. To install the new rubber bungs: Locate the new bung under the hole in the floorpan and use a trolley jack to press the new bung into its new home, job done !!

These can get knocked off/out if you're lowered and you catch them on a speed bump... good to get a part number as I need to replace a damaged one.

Peter, thanks for that. I wil deffo get some and replace them. I will, as you advise, clean the holes and treat them to prevent rust from starting.

There are drain pipes in the sills, and these often come off too. Its a small rubber bunge with a 1" pipe.

Numbers 56 and 74 in the diagram are what you need for the underside, both cheap from the dealers.

Number 74 is a drain grommet, it is situated near the jacking rubbers(number 56), if you going to get corrosion on the underside this is where it`s likely to be, does this help?

Oh dear, I had a look under mine recently and the back two are missing and the hole is full of rust. I guess I could scrap out the rot and weld ove them, do you really need them though?

Look at it this way, they are there for a reason. if they were not needed they would not be there.

Then again a quick visit to a local scrap yard and there was a W202 there, the rubbers are slightly different but they fit :)

Take care of your jacking points folks, I scrapped the white one partly because all the jacking points needed welding. Clean em out, protect them, AND stick a rubber in there, thats my advice anyway.

BAD NEWS IS THE JACKING POINT RUBBERS FOR THE 190 USED TO BE £2.15 FROM THE DEALER ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO.

THEY ARE NOW £20 +VAT EACH!!

SOMEONE ON THE FORUM ADVISED RECENTLY HE HAD USED THE PLUGS USED FOR THE E CLASS WHICH FITTED OK. PART NUMBER GIVEN WAS 126 997 1886. HAPPY HAPPY THESE WERE ONLY £3 EACH.
UNFORTUNATELY THESE DO NOT FIT. DIAMETER IS MORE THAN A QUARTER INCH LARGER THAN THE FITTING ON THE CAR. TRYING TO PRESS THEM IN WITH A TROLLEY JACK JUST DOES NOT WORK.

ANYONE HAVE ANY OTHER SOLUTION AS INVESTING NEARLY £100 IN RUBBER BUNGS WHICH WILL PROBABLY GET WIPED BY A SLEEPNG POLICEMAN IS NOT COST EFFECTIVE.
