and bottomless pit of money thread for a few of us, but these a great track car and are largely wasted by improving them and only using them on the road,no matter what 190 you have you will never embarrass yourself on the track,

so mods can we now have a PROPER TRACK DAY SECTION , that we can start threads in, it subject that cannot be generalised the way it currrently is in the way its set out at the mo and is basically dead there. we need to be able to discuss individual matters on track prep and improvments .

its not a bad time in some ways to make a track car, what with cossies being so cheap ,some lowering springs and better brake pads and brake fluid and you got yourself a potent track tool thats fast and easy to drive on the limit on the track.get a cheap 2.3-16 say , that has at least the engine that runs well, and take it from there, under £1500 and you got something that will give type 'r' honda's , 944's ,etc complete grief on the track.

Seconded, 2009 is the year of the homegrown track-car!

Honestly, a part of me would rather spend £1500 throwing a 2.5-16 drivetrain and nice suspension into my own car
than take the chance on a thrashed Valver.
As if I'm gonna manage that anytime soon, though.

Guys you have got a section which is more than suitable for discussing track prep. Each section is covered so discuss away about the prep :)

no you're wrong ,its no good just pinning subjects, threads yes ,but not whole subjects, that section is not workin for a reason, and its not through lack of interest,
if we start posting there the subjects will get so long that you will never get to find anything you are looking for ,
there is at least 9 of us who are seriously into this thing and no-one is using it.
every time i try to start a thread in the track section it says i'm not permitted, how did jeremy do it?
did you move it?

The idea is to keep everything in order and to stop threads getting lost. So if a new member wants to look into track info, he can start at the beginning and read through peoples posts rather than having a mine field of threads.

Think "we" should have a special's section so you can see each car and mods spreadsheet like .

Hi,

Blimey, seems like the Track Bug is turning into some sort of epidemic.

One thing is for sure, what ever your build program and budget
be prepared to extend both dramatically.

On the topic of Track Cars somebody please confirm, are all the
190 shells the same, or are there some differences which
tends to be my own chain of thought ?

Many thanks,

Regards,

The Gorilla.

Hi Gorilla,

apart from details like engine mounts for 4 & 6 cylinder models I think that basically , all 190 shells are more or less identical.,there are some suspension differences on the valvers, but thats about it - I think?

There will no doubt be a few 'invisible' changes that MB made over the years to the W201 chassis, as is typical with most German cars of that era - MTI is usually clued-up on such things.

After shunning away from the 606 idea due to possible weight issues, and thinking about putting a VAG TDI150 motor in it, then being convinced by the boys on the tdiclub that this was a bad idea, I'm back to researching the 606 idea...

Trying to figure out if it would be too heavy at the moment, and drawing the conclusion that it 'probably' wouldn't be. If you can get a c36 motor to work ok in a w201, then a 606 would probably be okay as well...

I think I've got the turbo plans sorted, garrett gt2559v VNT with mechanical control, it will be coupled to a getrag, driving a w124 diesel differential.

I just need to find out where to get a turbo capable w124 300td injection pump from... I'm looking to europe at the moment for that one.

Blasting round castle combe on a tank of B100 or even cherryade sure would be fun :P

maybe contact the guy on youtube who has the w123 turbo supercharged car doing donuts near the wall, i'm sure he was getting huge power from that thing,

Oh yes, got some build photo's of that one. It's turbo'd (holset of course) and supercharged :) It'll have a myna diesel injection pump (finnish injection pump guru's), but I need a Bosch M series core to send to them for upgrade!

I wish my old w123 estate was as pristine as that instead of being a rust pit :(

i'm preparing a track car. i've gutted out the interior, and the 16v engine is almost ready to go in. the suspension is almost sorted, just need to install the swaybars. so yeah, i'm doing it, but it's a long-term project for me that i work on 'whenever i've got time'. which is about an hour a week or so

Hi,

I was thinking along the lines of a Klasse 1 / modern day modification, but
am still playing around with ideas.

Not 100% sure if a Klasse 1 kit on a car used on the
road is not just inviting problems ?

I would like to keep it road useable, and with that
comes some compromise.

In the past I have always ended up with something
that is just Track/Race focused, making road
use alomst useless.

I did at one stage consider an early C36 AMG with Hydro
Clutch, and convert it to a 5 speed Manual, 16v Dog leg
box bolts straight up, with 2.6 Flywheel and sachs
clutch, and go from there, but its not quite a 190.

Regards,

The Gorilla

gorilla ,
the big part about a klasse1 car is the stance of the machine, there are endless amounts of pictures showing evo2's sitting up like a 4x4,
as its the only easy way of using them off the track, and as you know i'm a huge fan of the klasse1 more than anything in the world but if it has to have a 3'' gap from the tyres to the arch, its going to look like crap,

which is why nowadays i'm looking at big arches still but some where i can dictate the arch height and not the other way round to keeep 'the look'right ,
although i'm not into the show-off side, like a hanging picture on the wall that is crooked its would annoy me really quickly,
the latest thing i'm into is the m3 gtr arches, either e36 or e46, i'm sure it would look fine on a 190a klasse1 front spoiler and custom sills..

but a klasse1 only for the road may look odd as it rely's on the wheels sitting high in the arches, but maybe mounting the arches a little lower will at least give the car a reasonable ride height,

one thing i'm looking into is using airbags in the springs to raise the height for road use,but it seems a possibility that because of the shape of the springs it may only serve the purpose of stiffening the suspension a sahtey are not that wide,
only other solution there is make a separate area between the chassis and the suspension arm?

we already have an airbag thread going.
