Easy weight reduction & cheap too.................

Got to be worth a second per lap per stone, surely.

@ 1HP gained per 13.75 LBS lost for a 2.5-16V

Losing weight=more horsepower?

Discuss.

My 2.5-16 weighs 1280 KG's +/-

It has 205 HP +/-

Therefore each 6.24 KG's is equal to 1 HP (?)

This equates to approx 13.75 lbs per HP (?)

Free horsepower.......?

I reckon then, that when I go tracking, I gain about 15-18 HP by throwing out everything not bolted down.

Not bad for 15 minutes work.

which is why my manual is faster then my auto cos one is full speck and the other basic speck.

its quite easy to ditch weight in the car, but not quite so easy to lose it in the right places so you dont loose handling ect

Dead right.

If a vehicle is stripped of all excess weight it should then be corner weighed at each wheel. Then ballast (lead)should be added back in to keep car balanced. Relocating battery, fuel tank etc can partly act as ballast.

It is a damn good point.. Something that I will bring to the attention to some of my friends who are totally OTT with weight reduction. It might be worthwhile to invest in a decent motorsport scales (even just 1, not the whole 4) so you could work out the best balance of your car, rather than all out weight reduction. After all, handling is what its all about right?

Forgot to mention (and this especially applies to 190's with M103/104 motors) if you strip the car of all excess weight but now find that the front is heavier overall percentage wise that the original use extra ballast to shift weight to the rear or even more if you wish and it's handy to adjust untill it feels correct, the car may not be as light as it could be but handling, especially understeer/turn in will have been improved thus making the car easier to drive which in turn will make it faster and importantly safer.

IF you count the torque converter as part of the transmission, and also the extra fluid it requires, then yes. if not, then not so much

I would count those parts Sev, as a manual trans car wouldn't have them therefore you can include it in the weight difference.

Someone should weight all the parts they take out of a car.
We did that once with a Golf; was interesting to see what was heavy and to add it all up.

I had to fill up my windscreen washer bottle today, it took ages to fill and made me think how much weight you would take off by draining it. Looked in the manual and the washer bottle holds 5 liters.
