My heater blower has stopped working again. Last time it was the fuses. This time I've tested & checked the following. Fuses OK, Blower OK, Main Controller slide switch intact, Current to dash board switch OK. So stuck on what to check next and have a few questions. QUESTIONS A) Is there another fuse that controls the blower other than the main fuse box and if so where is it. Is there a relay that sometimes fails and if so where.C) Does this so called orange relay with 40amp fuse have any bearing on my blower problem on a 1989 model without AC? D) Is there a heater blower resistor on this 1989 2.0 auto model and if so where is it? E) Is there something else I've missed. Any help would be grateful as need to get the monkey off my back(My mum) moaning about being cold. |

After two weeks of messing around I have finally found out what was wrong with my heater to which no one on this website have mention or had before or I have yet to see a thread on it. After taking the dash and heater motor and reley and wiring out and checking I found out that the problem was in the end a quite simple one. I tested the wiring and found that the blower wasn't working again after I had it out after testing it on the floor, So took it back out and found that after retesting baout 75 times starting and stopping with a battery is that the motor had a stopping spot that normal current wouldn't get it started again. Not even turning the wheel a bit would do. You had to fully turn the wheel one turn and then it would restart of the battery on reconnecting the power to it. I could see that the main shaft had some rusting on it and just need loads of WD40 and some manual turning working the oil around the shaft to loosen up the shaft from the rust. Re installed and worked first time. But know know have one other problem. How do you refit the centre dash and keep the two silver bars straight to get into the heater plastic turners?? I can get one in, But the right hand I can't see or reach. There must be a trick I'm missing. |

Here's an update of finally finding the fault. After checking everything I decided to re pull out the blower and just turn it over on a bench with a car battery and some wires. After turning the blower on off for about 30 times I found the motor would stick in a certain place and wouldn't move, Even if you push it a little with your hand. So oiled up the shaft of the blower to remove the rust on it and works 100% now and been working fine for weeks with no problems. So in the end it was just plain old rust on the shaft. |
