I actually drove one of these! I was in the Gulf, visiting my brother and we were sitting around with some of his Kuwaiti chums when we realised that we'd run out of smokes. I volunteered to go at get some from a corner shop about a mile away and a charming chap, who hadn't said much up to that point, casually tossed me his car heys and said - "Here, please take my car. It's the black one outside."

F'me! It was a 'short' wheelbase one, i.e. not a Pullman.

Seventh heaven gents, I can assure you.

When I returned, with the 200 Marlboros, we chatted some more. Turned out he had a few other Mercs, too, including a Gullwing.

He was 24!

When King Hussein was on a state visit to the UK in the late 1950s the then Prime Minister gave a dinner party for him at 10 Downing street. When he was asked if there was a special guest he wished to have there, HRH replied: "Stirling Moss." B)
