I have just repaired one of my door cards. It had blown at the top edge that clips into the widow trim therefore kept coming off. Where the card was seperating I filled this with glue, (I used glue for repairing vinyl pools because it was all I had, any glue should be ok,) this soaks into the card. I then clamped the card in the correct position and left overnight. et voila. It looks ok at the moment but haven't refitted to car yet and sorry no pics either. |

i bought some plastic strip .. bit like a plastic angle iron L shape cross section in 3 ft lenghts from b & q bout a pound a strip ... slid it over the door card and into the clips it covers the edge of the leather where it peels and holds it in place looks factory tbh will get pics up some time ..

this size ------ | | THE VERTICAL EDGE SLIDES DOWN BY THE DOOR CARD INTO THE EDGING STRIP AND THE HORIZONTAL EDGE COVERS THE TOP OF THE CARD SOZ CAPS i will pic up later but it looks suprisingly from factory black strip on black leather trim etc and it a snugg fit tapped the strips down with a small extension socket very gently and they hold the card in place nicley done both fronts work on rears later .. the leather just shrinks over time and after 20 years what do you expect i guess.. wish my skin would shrink.... |

I did the same with mine and its lasted months, in fact nearly a year. I think the thnner the glue the better as it lets it soak through the card so the card doesnt just split again. cra_arc, can you get some pics up when you get a moment, I am very interested in this solution. Now that I have another 8 blown doorcards to fix

well lets hope so just push em in and tap em down was all i did tbh try and bend/ fit/ push the cards as near to proper shape first of course then the strips are just like a pressure fit along the edge .. will see how it lasts etc but like i said fo a quid a strip !!! who cares if its only 6 months

Hey cra arc, I got some of that strip from B&Q..When I tried it for size it didn't push down all the way,I had to trim 3/16 off the vertical?? It still doesnt seem to tap down all the way?? What size was the strip that you used?? I got the smallest one they had but as I say it was too big on the vertical..!!It could be my door rubbers, they're pretty old and not in the best shape. Are the doorcards and rubbers different on your model???It looks O.K. but theyre not quite flush to the rubber like yours.I can always trim them a little more if the size is the same as the ones you got but I'd rather get the right size. You seem to have quite a bit of clearance to your door locks wheras I had to cut away a bit to fit around mine..I think maybe the 2.3 16 is a little different..??Great Fix all the same. Cheers Maestro. Cosser..!! |

Hey if you do end up buying new doorcards , ask for 2.5 full leather ones i paid £64 each for mine as opposed to £140 each for half leather ones , dont ask ne why but they came and they were the correct ones , Strange but saves you a lot (obviously this was plus the thievin robbin gits stealth tax) |

ok what i did ... make sure you get friendly with a good body shop as they will have a hot glue gun for stickin the plastic hangars back on the cards normal glue is crap they have the stuff or use some really haevy bonding type stuff that wont sink into the card... for the leather .. try and seal it back down as far as poss and as neat as poss .. dont try and re stretch it.. to its proper position as it will be under tension and tend to wanna pull free again ... no prob if it dont go all the way back as any gaps will be covered by the plastic strips... once stuck good and firm all along the edge you can even staple it after ! bend the card so its as near perfect shape as is poss .( the top lip etc where it fits into door ) then be real carefull puttin them back on as not to rub the leather edges and start em peeling again.. once on tap in the plastic strips to create a seamless unpeeled look they should be a real tight fit in the channels if not space em or use little plastic wedges that cant be seen to create a pressure fit... mine have been fine for a while now ... |

ahh man its still the same. Well some new road systems have gone in and the cold is ever present thanks to the see haar. Nice road from Aberdeen - Peterhead, infact coming to think about it a lot of the roads up here are autoporn. I should put up a thread with pics of my fav roads from around here. Might rig up a helmet cam as well Only really bad thing is the rash of speed bumps that are sprouting out of the tar like pubescent zits! The double block ramp type which my 100 avant quatro used to stradlle with ease. But what grinds my gears (yep was watchin family guy tother night) is that these bumps are laid down to slow down drivers in sensitive areas such as schools and old peoples homes etc. Well all thats happend is all the mums have fought back with SUV's and 4x4 to combat them. I am going to have to take the 190 round them and work out a solution, was thinking about riding over them one sided at pavement side. I read in the FSH that the car was lowered by a MB dealer (40mm) is that the standard sensible drop? |

40mm is okay, you havent got big wheels on so it should be fine, the 16v and sportline were 22m lower, so 40mm isnt that low its about the right height to go. Just go round them on the edges. |

well 40 mm is quite a drop but its well within acceptable tbh .. depends on the wheels an tyes you have on her .. of course.. post some pics up etc do u get any rubbin at all ?? there are some that have gone real low .. 40 mm is fine tho as long as u remeber it !!!! the suspension on these cars is renowned for being good tho ... so i wouldnt worry

update found after lots of door slams and vibration etc that the rear ones .. that were by far the worst and the hardest to fit flush started to lift out a bit .. especially towards the rear half way along the rear quarter light seems to be the worst area solution a black flat headed self tepper with a wide head ( as if its got a washer attached) but still qiet low profile drill a small 2/3 mm hole through the plastic throw the door card and into the door where the metal edge has a wee bump in it drill vertically down through all thre plastic trim door and self tap it now perfectly tight ... can hardly be noticed and it holds it all down and will not now work its way free.. btw the fronts have stayed put as in pics earlier.. still better than new cards !!
