I have just acquired a second hand set of alloys from a friend they came from a C Class 2003 Model, alloys are: MERC PART NUMBER B66471053 / 2034012802 7 J / 16 H2 ET 31 with 205/55 R16 The rear rear set fit great, but front pair are rubbing on the mudflaps & arch when putting full lock on or when going over bumpy road surfaces and braking hard. I dont really want to upgrade suspension could I get away with putting lower profile tyres on the front alloys only to counteract this problem, maybe 205/40/16 and leave the 205/55/16 on the rear. Appreciete help in this matter. :help |

That big of a difference in F+R diameter will totally screw up your ABS. It won't work properly. 205/50/16 should be fine up front, or go for 205/45/16 all round. |

I would agree, 205/40/16 is smaller than you need. 205/50/16 may be fine although it may still rub slightly. How badly does it rub, is it only when you steer sharply and go over a bump (like pulling into a drive) , or do just bumps, or just sharp steering cause it ? I would say 45s all round is the best solution although 20 minutes of arch rolling would probably do the job. |

No it get the rubbing in/out the drive, also when braking fairly hard & when the road has dips (helter skelter type sinario) even on the odd corner I get some rubbing. Probably sounds worse than it is but still gives some concern, the noise seems to be the mudflaps so I'm taking them off this afternoon then going for another test run and see how things are. Took mudflaps off and the difference was considerable, only get a very very slight rub now when driving along a dippy road at speed, all other priblems gone. Will replace with 205/45/16's when current tyres worn, Thanks for all your help. |

To keep the original rolling diameter I am pretty sure that 205/50 R16 is the correct size to use. I run these and have no rubbing issues. (Lowered 40mm) Another trick is to place spacers behind the wing mounting bolts around the wheel arch. 1 behind the bumper, 1 behind the indicator and 1 at the lower part at the rear of the wheel arch. I have also done this and you can gain about 25mm extra space under the wheel arch. There is an AMG kit available from MB to do this but it is much cheaper to just space with washers.

205/45/16 would be a very nice size, especially on a lowered one... |
