i am running 205/55r16 tires (lil too big) tires on the front and rear of the car i have no problem at all with the rear rubbing but the front rubs on every oops pavement dips nook or crack

i am running vogtland springs (proper part number) and #3 pads all the way around ( getting # 2 for the rear)

i want to know if downsizing to 205/50r16 tires ,shimming the bumper and fender to get them farther out (clear the tire) would fix the problem ?

I would personally go as low a profile as you can to save messing arond cutting bits here and there. Make sure you go for a more curved profile of tyre and not square walled.

assuming you have a sensible offset a 205 tyre shouldn't really be rubbing on the lip or wing, i suspect its rubbing up top somewhere. Lower profile tyre should do the trick.

I may still have two part worn 205/50/16s.. Not sure, pm if your interested, I am in london (ish)

My mate has some almost new 225/45/16s spare as well, but 225 may give you side rubbing issue.

offset of 41 is quite far inwards isnt it ? I dont think you will have any worries on the outside edge, I reckon washers won't be needed.

I love offset.

Maybe even go to 205/45? My tyres are 45 and its just the right size profile for a 16" I reckon. 55's are huge, and my old 15"s were 65's!!

Let us know how you get on :)

beat on the fender a little bit, added a washer on both fenders and bumper side and i have no rubbing at all now :D still will buy a set of 205/50r16 ,45 are too small cause im keeping the 55 for the rear!

hi my friend, just read ur post on the tyre rubbing...
If the back is fine on ur benz, keep the tyre size u are using..
I c the front is givin u hassle??
drop the front pair of tyres to 205/45/16".
trust me, Ive been dropping cars since I was 17yrs old.
and judging by ur pics, ur rims are avantgarde items so the they wont b more than 6-7"j ( width).

any questions mail me on mangatmotorsport@mail.com

Im the chap with the smoke silver cossie on 18's...

hi m8, if you are sticking with 16's, you wana go 205/45/16"
even if you drop to 205/50 your still gona get the rubbing.

you will end spending more money on the change again.

back in 1995 I had 205/45/16 tyres on my ev day run around wich was a cav GSI dropped by 60mm.

as you may know, back then if you had 16's on you motr you were the daddy..
stick with 45's you cant go wrong...
