... the arrangement of the air filter / airflow sensor / manifold in my 190E 1991 2.0 saloon is actually reversed and is more accurately represented here :

KE-jetronic for 1991 190E saloon : http://volkswagen.msk.ru/injector/k_and_ke-jetronic.pdf

Note how in the forst diagram air enters below the airflow sensor, whillst in the second it enters from above (uless I am much mistaken).
