Duck tail! Dunno where you get them. I've only seen one 190e with that back end in real life.

I've seen a 190 in Asda carpark by me with that type of boot. It has the AMG badge on it.

Wouldn't mind one of them....

apparently the AMG Duck Tail is now very very rare indeed.

i think they looked best on the W124 coupe, but a Black W201
with a duck tail looks amazing.

The duck tail is AMG only and was a special edition but cost a fortune. That is why they are rare but can be copied.

Do the ducktails really have the AMG emblem on? Is it moulded into the spoiler or a badge stuck on? I saw a ( admitedly shabby) AMG kitted 190 with no badge - moulded OR stuck on.

Could've been a copy but I'm sure the front bumper had the AMG moulded in.

Baby C's doesn't appear to have a badge/emblem and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't settle for a fake. :ph43r:

Go on, someone prove me wrong............again!

ok...there are two versions of the OEM AMG ducktail... I believe babyc has the second revision of it which has a smaller molded in AMG emblem ... it is color matched so obviouisly hard to see...

this first version of it that was produced has a larger AMG symbol molded into it..but when it is body colored matched, is hard to see as well...

I believe cdn190er has one in his garage somewhere... and in the last year I saw two sold out of Vancouver (the older style with the larger AMG) for 150-200$ USD

personally i like them especially when the whole rear end molds into the ductail.. obviously that takes some body excessive body work but the look it produces when done proper is so seamless...i love it!

run.exe on the US 500ecstasy forum has a ducktail molded onto his w124 500e500... i think it looks amazing

"Cdn190er"

After 91/92 the ///AMG was a stick on and the AMG was no longer embossed into the center piece of the spoiler. However all the pieces have AMG and a HWA part number embossed on the mounting surface.

so yeah, i was quasi wrong..i forgot i had this discussion w/ Tim aka cdn190er... I think we surmised that AMG got cheaper with the mold and wanted it as simple as possible for stamping purposes... I think the more recently produced one is a tad bit lighter in terms of Poly Urethane blend used

Hey, no probs mate. Thanks for the reply though, I'll have to wait 'til I'm back at my parent's house where the spoiler is to have a look for part numbers.

Didn't want to post here 'til I had for fear of looking daft, but heyho... :P

Do you think this was the start of the Mercedes/ AMG build quality downfall?

The new cars are really bad compared to the older ones ie. W201, W124 etc.

the beginning of the end? definitely.

the 'latest' Merc i would ever realistically buy is a 1996 W124 E320 Coupe or Convertible,
or possibly an R129 SL from the same period.

bag of shite from then on, unless you're talking S / SL / SLR.
as far as everyday cars go, BMW and Audi have left them for dead in the integrity stakes...

Good off roader although expensive.

Very many popular off roaders being used for fun, but when they get stuck, what turns up to haul them out?

A series 1 or 2 Landie with hydraulic winch!

However Brabus G Wagen, Droooooolllll !!

the last years of merc's i care for are the 99' and 00' SL's .... and the 00' C43 and C36's

but in terms of solid last years of the classic merc build ... i think 95-97 really saw the demise in build quality ,, with the first C-class being intro'd and the M-class egg timer plastic SUV also being intro'd , mercedes took a clear turn for worse reliability when aiming more for the US market

don't get me wrong , i still drool over the carlsson , kleeman's, amg's, brabus, lorinsers out there... but I couldn't even imagine the type of uber mercedes that could be produced if the base quality from the early 90's merc's was implemented into what these tuners built their current cars off of... it'd be definitely a great quality/enduring bang for the buck.

i've had my eye on a 95' e320 cabriolet with really low miles locally... not sure if I can transform into one of those 'convertible' guys..but it sure would be nice for warm weather.

just flicked thru the latest issue of Mercedes Enthusiast, huge article on "10 Future Classic Mercs".

the newest cars that make it are the R170 SLK, W202 C43 AMG, and the mid-nineties CL Coupe.
the rest are the quality faves like the 450SEL 6.9, the C123 Coupe and of course...

W201 190E 2.3-16!

and i quote "no C-Class is ever destined to become a classic car" (with the exception of AMGs)
