I love offset.

...I don't recommend this but you can reproduce the effect with a frying pan, cooking oil and a blowtorch. The cooking oil will heat up far quicker than it's designed to and will turn to a sticky black tar in your pan. Either that or it will set fire to your kitchen, which is why I said "don't do this"...

Some interesting reading there! Good tech info too of course ;)

What oil do you recommend on balance for a 2.6 with 134,000 on the clock - going to do a change at the weekend.

Ta.

Oh, prob non-branded stuff unless it's worth it.

Some 10w40 should be fine, thats what I use, its a little thick when cold so cold starts can be a bit sluggish, but I find my engine runs quite warm and it thins out a bit (you'll see your oil pressure drop more at idle) so Im glad to have the slightly thicker oil for when its hot.

Im sure another 2.6 owner will recommend some that they use. Oh and its always worth putting good oil into your car, Castrol GTX Magnatec. Ive never used cheap oil so I cant complain about them, but oil is pretty important I wouldnt scrimp over a few extra quid ;)

Nice one - my engine does run a bit hot - as we all know, so the 10w40 might be the best then. Unless anyone else can convince me otherwise...

Especially being nice warm weather now it should be fine. I use it all year round, its only really sluggish in very cold winter, and even then its just on starting. :)

good old 10w40 - thats what i always use in the 190. Its done me fine and the car runs very nicely on it. I dont use the very epensive oil as It costs somethign like £60 to do a full oil service when you use the name brands. I use Halfrauds own brand 10w40 part synth and it seems fine. The Halfrauds oil isn't actually all that bad and certainly isnt as bad as some other un-named brands... and its bloody cheap - £10 for 5ltrs on halfrauds trade!

Thanks guys - I'll buy some and do it over t'weekend.

How much oil does a 2.6 take - I seem to remember it's about 7 litres isn't it?

How do I get Halfords trade prices? And where from...

600 miles on the rebuilt engine - time to change the oil on the 2.3-16

usually used Castrol GTX 15w-40 for high mileage before the rebuild.

has anyone used Castrol Magnatec 15w-40 in their cossie and what was the results? am i best sticking with the high mileage oil?

I have had 10w-40 semi synth in the car before and plumes of smoke came out the exhaust once the car warmed up so obviously too thin
