ok shims have arrived! i just have to make a 2.57 shim to 2.4  then i can put them back in the engine.the guys at merc know a bit about the valver and said to me that if its tapping - the tight clearences maybe not the problem it could be the timing chain, i did think maybe but 40k .... it cant stretch that much to make a noise can it! they then said what about worn cam lobes?? so im going to measure each lobe on its peak to see if there is any variation on the cams. ill post back with pics + findings Oli |
