Indeed. The 2.6 has hydraulic self adjusting lifters that require no shims to take up slack from any wear. I have the copy of autocar in which they interview Mike Hall about his 16 valve head. He says. "Mercedes shied away from using hydraulic tappets at the time, so my head retains simple mechanical bucket tappets with shim adjustment. it all works very well, though" In other words. It's only the 16v heads that require shims to take up any slack/wear. All other engines have hydraulic tappets/lifters that require no shims at all. Edited by stwat, Fri Jul 3, 2009 10:18 pm.
