Breaking your own limitations II By Pastor Cash Luna http://www.cashluna.org/eng/index.cfm?get=view&id=790 You have free-will over your thoughts. The first limitation we must overcome are our thoughts, which always dictate our limitations The Word of God says that “In God we shall do mighty deeds”. Psalms 150 says, “We praise Him for His mighty deeds.” God does mighty deeds and I’m called to do them also. The words for “mighty deeds” that’s used with God is different from the ones used with me. We have no issues with God, it’s the character in His children that causes the problems. He does mighty deeds. He caused a flood. Who’s mighty wonder was that? God’s. However, Noah built the ark. Who did the mighty deed of building it? Noah. Had God brought a flood, but Noah not built the ark, no one would have been saved. God does mighty deeds, but He also commands us to do our own. Noah had to overcome a number of things. For starters, if it had never rained, then no one knew what it meant. Then he said that there was going to be a flood, but what in the world is that? They couldn’t understand it. Noah had to overcome pre-determined mindsets in his thinking concerning limitations God would break thru, in order to then break thru his own personal limitations. We all have these. The Wright brothers, just like every other human being, knew we couldn’t fly. Notwithstanding, they broke through those limitations and invented the airplane. Their father was a pastor, who used to say that if God had meant for man to fly, He would have given us wings. So they thought up of a pair to do it. God gave us intelligence, and we’re called to break-thru the limits in our mind. Proverbios 23:7 For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. One is what one thinks. Henry Ford invented the Model-T and the auto assembly production line, because he believed that every man was worthy of owning a vehicle. Towards the start of the company, marriages were supervised and house visitations were common to make sure that no alcohol was consumed. They sought to maintain employee morals, as high as possible. There’s a famous saying that goes: “Think you can or think you can’t, and in both cases you are right.” You choose what to think. You think what you want. You have free-will over your thoughts. The first limitation we must overcome are our thoughts, which always dictate our limitations. As I shared on another occasion, of that young blind boy that wanted to go on scaling mountains and his Dad didn’t stop him. He was even able to climb Mount Everest, without ever being able to see. All he did was follow his Dad’s footsteps and His voice. The question is, what might have been going through this man’s head? Another example is the man with no arms, who used to work for the CIA, and not only that, but he also pitched for their softball team. He had no arms, but he must have been thinking something that the rest didn’t. He must have said something like, “ I don’t have any arms, but who says I don’t have any feet!” These people started thinking things, that others refused to or ignored. To break your limitations, you first must change your way of thinking, otherwise why haven’t you achieved it up until now. We’ve got to think different, and thereby break thru our own limitations. If you can think while you’re asleep, than go for it. God’s never going to drop a thought, in people that don’t set their minds to thinking. The second thing we need to break thru is our feelings. It’s the most treacherous thing I know of. But everyone gives too much importance to how they feel. However, there are times in which it’s a matter of getting things done, in spite of how we feel. If we’re going to be lead by feelings, than how will we ever break thru any limitation. Feelings of rejection, of non-acceptance, of inferiority, of false humility, of insecurity, of depression. No one can break thru limitations, unless they first overcome these feelings. Why? Because whenever you set your mind to breaking any limitation, feelings like pressure are unavoidable. There are some people that compete, giving up right from the start. They start the game off, believing they’re going to lose. These are the ones that believe giving up on a challenge or situation, is better than having to bear thru the pressure to win or achieve it. Without learning to manage pressure, you’ll never be able to break through a limitation. Once you truly discover the power in the Word of God and put those ridiculous feelings aside, which you or someone else set in your heart, only then will you be able to break thru every limitation in your life. We’re children of God, children of the most High and no one can make you feel any less or bad, except you let them. Feelings can betray us. Always pondering, on what others think about you, and how they judge you will get you nowhere. If your poor, they treat you like a “loser”, but if your able and studious they’ll label you as a “nerd”. Jesus’ Words are fulfilled here, that you’ll never fit well, with those that really don’t love and respect you. No matter how they make you feel, you’ve got to learn to manage those feelings. Security is a very important feeling. How do we develop it? By doing small things, with excellence. Don’t move on to something greater, until you first do the one you have with excellence. The feeling of security, is a product of practice. Our thoughts generate feelings, these turn into actions, which then turn into habits, which then turn into our character. I want you to say, “I’m a child of God. I’m going to think like a child of God and I’m going to feel like a child of God. Amen!” If you want to break through any limitation, you’ve got to do what it says in Psalms 126: When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. God has made me free to dream. The problem is that many people get free from drugs, alcohol, etc. but they never dream. However, the psalmist says that we shall be like those who dream. No one that’s a slave of a bad habit, can dream. If you’re a slave to illicit sex, there’s no way you can ever dream of a good marriage. It’s virtual torture just thinking that you might get caught at any time. Same thing if you’re a drug addict, you’ll end up destroying everything. No one with a bad habit, tends to dream like those of us with good habits do. If you’ve got the habit of honesty and truthfulness, than dream big, no doubt you’ll make it. If you’re going to school, than dream of some day blessing your parents. But lazy hobos, what can they possibly dream of? Just of not getting kicked out of school. We’ll never be able to dream, unless we are first set free. And if you’re free, than what’s keeping you from dreaming? Don’t let anything nor anyone steal your dreams from you, not even yourself. If you’ve got the habit of being lazy, unpunctual, then you’ve got one of two options: you either change your habits for good ones, or just stop dreaming. Because you’ll never dream of a successful life, while engaging in an unbalanced one. I remember when I started training with the national volleyball team. We’d be going around the national Mateo Flores soccer stadium, doing ‘leap-frogs’, and I was always the one exerting the most effort, ‘cause I still hadn’t made the team. The others that were so sure of themselves, didn’t make half the effort necessary. Everything went well, until they started to measure each one’s leaping abilities. Once they started seeing this, many were kicked off, while I was taken in. Why? It’s called good habits. I want you to think for a moment, on your food habits, your exercise habits, on your habits when seeking the Lord. Tell me your habits, and I’ll tell you of your dreams. Do you think that if I were a pastor, that just squandered everything that came in, that I would be dreaming of a new sanctuary? No. But since we’ve done everything correctly, and in order, then we can dream on. We’re about to begin our 5th. service. I’ve got to break new limits, because there’s also a physical price to pay. I want you to say,”I’m going to develop good habits, good thoughts and good feelings.” You’ve got to leave your past behind, otherwise, you’ll never break thru your limits. No one can drive, with their eyes on the rearview mirror. Have you ever tried it? You probably would have crashed by now. One can only drive thru life, with their eyes to the front. Isaiah 54 says: “Fear not, for you shall not be ashamed, even the sin of your youth, you will not remember.” Dragging our past will keep us from enjoying a better future. The past is left behind. We’re here now thanks to God’s lovingkindness. Personally speaking, I try to give my best as a pastor, for I understand everything that’s on the line. I eat the best I can, I exercise the most I can, I take care of my mind and my feelings from every attack launched our way. I do my best to care for my heart, my mind and my feelings, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to dream. I continually leave my past behind. I want you to meditate on something for a moment. I’m aware that many of the dreams that you have, depend on the one’s I’ve got, since I also dream of seeing your entire family for Christ. The things I’m sharing can’t be changed by the government, because what can it do to keep you from inferiority complexes? Or what can they do with your past? The government will do it’s part to the best of their ability, however much of what happens to us has to do with our attitude towards life. We need to learn to improve it more and more each day. Break thru your limits. What’s keeping you from becoming the first University graduate in your family? There aren’t any millionaires in your family, but you could be the 1st. You can break thru every limitation. We need a Thomas Alba Edison, in everything we do. Leave your past behind, everything they did to you, everything they said to you and everything that happend to you. Don’t let it thwart your dreams. The Bible says that you’ll no longer remember, the sins of your youth. I can give you a long list of every reason why I shouldn’t get ahead in life: I come from a dysfunctional family. No money. I couldn’t gain access to any circles of society, etc. The list goes on and on. Character-wise, I never thought I’d get married. I used to get so angry, that everytime I didn’t get things when I studied, I’d literally pull my hair off my head. Lonliness-wise, I thought no one loved me. All I had was a dog, and I thought he was the only one I meant something to. BUT I BROKE THRU EVERY LIMITATION!!! Write down everything you think, might be hindering you, then tear the paper up in a million pieces. Don’t let anything stop you, for in God we shall do mighty deeds! |
