Breaking your own limitations

Have you seen the power of God do something in your life? Something that you’re sure had to be a divine intervention? Have you witnessed God’s Hand move in favor of your family, business and nation?

Psalms 150:1-6

1 Praise the LORD!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!
2 Praise Him for His mighty deeds;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
5 Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD!

In this Psalm, the words “mighty deeds” mean: power, strength, giant, chief, champion.

When we praise God, we praise Him for His strength and His power. Because He is a giant and a champion.

Psalms 60:9-12

9 Who will bring me into the fortified city?
Who will bring me victory over Edom?
10 Have you rejected us, O God?
Will you no longer march with our armies?
11 Oh, please help us against our enemies,
for all human help is useless.
12 With God’s help we will do mighty deeds,
for he will trample down our foes.

In this Psalm, the words “mighty deeds” have a slightly different meaning than that in Psalms 150.

“Mighty deeds” in Psalms 60 in the hebrew mean: “army, man of valor, courage, strength, riches, health, power, efficient and skillful.”

So when it says: “in God we shall do mighty deeds”, it’s not speaking of God’s mighty deeds. It’s not a mighty deed resulting from a devine atribute, but that of a mighty army of God battling courageously to obtain something or to reach a destination.

When God spoke to Noah, He told him: “make me an ark.” Noah completed the mighty deed of building an ark, however God did the mighty deed of sending the rain down. We are called to work mighty deeds. Noah built the ark, at a time when it had never rained before. He had to overcome a number of fears to do it, remember it hadn’t rained, all they had ever been exposed to was dew. Noah was criticized, and if you truly want to do mighty deeds, you’ve got to understand that someone’s bound to criticize and chide you. But if you believe that it can be done in God, you’ve got to press on ‘til you do it!

A pastor once said from a pulpit, that man would never fly, because had it been God’s will for them to fly, He would have given them wings. This pastor was the Wright brothers’ father, the same ones that went on to invent the plane. They broke through a limitation, and now we all enjoy the legacy that these two young men left behind for mankind. Why? Because they set their minds to do something and didn’t stop until they achieved it.

When we first traveled to the moon, we broke a limitation. Many of us enjoy things today as a result of someone one day breaking thru a limitation, to leave a benefit behind for humanity. Many of these people were persecuted and burnt at the stake. Don’t expect to break thru a limitation without people judging or criticizing you.

The Bible is full of stories of ordinary men and women, who set their minds on doing extraordinary things. Noah was an old man, yet he built an ark. David was a young boy, rejected of his family, yet he defeated a giant and did other mighty deeds to become King over a nation. He, like many others, broke thru limitations!

What will you dare to do, today? What has your family limited you from doing? Limits can never be broken waiting around, you’ve got to do something. Abraham was an old man and Sarah was barren, yet they dared to believe God and worked mighty deeds in Him.

God made us with an incredible capacity for breaking limits, barriers, molds that dictate what we can and cannot do. That’s what the Bible is for, to break out of the mold. That’s why it clearly says that with God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!

I watched a program on TV the other day, of a young 17 year old boy that was blind, but he had always enjoyed mountain hiking with his Dad. I was blown away when I saw a snowy hill and his father shouting out to him: ”feel my footprints and follow me”. By following his Father’s footsteps, this young man was climbing Mt. Everest. He didn’t stay at home complaining and feeling sorry about himself for being blind, but he had a pair of legs and a pair of arms and he broke his own limitation.

A Son of God mustn’t ask for work by provoking pity. We must have a balance. I’m tired of hearing messages that only speak on the trials we’re going thru and the tests coming our way, but they never preach on the VICTORY! Jesus never preached on the trials He was going thru.

Another day, I saw another documentary on a man with no arms. He did everything with his feet. He’d perculate some coffee with his feet, he bathed, dressed, got into his car and even drove to work, all with his feet. When he got to his job, he’d read the paper. This man works for the CIA and he’s the only one with a drivers license for his feet. Now, that’s what I call “breaking the limits off”. Many people healthy and whole don’t do anything. They’re always looking for others to bail them out of situations, but they need to understand that it’s their attitude that’s going to bring them ahead and not anything else.

We’ve got people in this church that serve in wheelchairs, while there are countless others with all healthy and whole, that we’ve got implore for them to serve. You can mark the difference.

The university I went to school in is a private and pricy university. I didn't have any money for tuition, but that’s where I wanted to study, so I asked for a scholarship and I was accepted. The entire time I was in school, it was with a scholarship. I broke the shame barrier, of going to ask for one. Many don’t go to school, because they lack the money. Yet, at the same time they don’t break that barrier by finding a way around it.

Only when we are able to break our own limitations, will we begin to work mighty deeds in God. Let’s focus on doing ours and let God do His.

When I was just slightly shy of getting my degree, I had to quit school due to a strong financial limitation my family was going through, so grave that we couldn’t even afford to cover the scholarship. However, some time later I returned to the same university, married, with two children and one on the way. I had a full-time job, a ministry, yet inspite of my limitation, I made up mind to apply myself even stronger than when I was single and I ended up, graduating with honors. Finish your studies, graduate and equip yourself!

What limitations are holding you back? Are they family or financial? Write them down and tear thru them!

There are people with discipleship groups in the wee-hours of the morning, however this hasn’t served as a hindrance for them to serve. Many don’t come out ahead and break their limitations, because of fear of being judged, criticized or ridiculed.

Governments haven’t been the ones governing us, but we have been governing ourselves with our mindsets.

On September 15, 1821 we signed our Independance Decree, however 2000 years ago, Jesus payed in full, on the cross of calvary, for the independance of our minds, to think big and break every limitation that comes our way. Many of the greatest inventors have been christians. They believed God and were never ashamed of making it known.

When will you be the one that has a talk with your boss to set a new sales record for the company? Why should someone else do it, and not you?

What are you going to do? Are you going to rise up and overcome it or will you just lay back and remain the same the rest of your life? You’ve got to break your own limitations!

A person walked up to me and told me that she’d seen me on television and that the Word of God had totally transformed her life. She gave me a packet of typical guatemalan candies and said, “We won a prize for the best exportation product. I’m not Guatemalan, I’m Ecuadorian and I export sweets.” This person broke thru a limitation that no Guatemalan had ever dared to break!
