Let me share my story with our body of Christ concerning my journey to walk with God. As a youth I played football at Humes Junior High School of Memphis, TN the same that Elvis Presley had attended. I returned kick offs and punts. The team we were playing had clobbered us. Quite naturally, I was very busy returning kick offs. A strange phenomenon occur ed right at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Our opponent had scored a touchdown. Yet, there was a penalty on the play and a time out called. The officials met on the sidelines to sort out the infraction. As the course of events unfolded the buzzer sounded to end the quarter. I trotted to the opposite end of the field where the opposing team waiting to kick off the ball. The other team had stayed at its same end, and so had mines. So, I was standing alone by myself.

You can imagine how ridiculous I appeared. Our opponents were jeering me with all types of foul names. "Dumb bunny get down to your side of the field they cried". My team was beckoning me to come to their end of the field. I put my hands on side of my waist and look up to the sky and shook my head to God. The crowd began to laugh and it hurt my feelings. Yet, I stood my ground anyway.
Finally, the officials blew the whistle and motioned to my team to come to the end of the field where I was standing and for our opponents to change ends as well. During the unfolding of events both teams had forgotten to switch ends of the field. As I stated earlier, we were being clobbered even in the 3rd quarter. As the kick off man, I knew that I had to receive from the opposite end.

After the game was over my older sister Edith came to comfort me. She said that it had embarrassed her when the crowd had mocked me. Yet, when the officials proved that I was right, it made her feel grateful that I was her little brother, who stood my ground.

I am 53 years of age. During the entire course of my lifetime, I have yet to witness a football game where either team had forgotten to switch ends of the field at the close of a quarter. This has let me know that something unusual had occurred that very day in my life. In my eyes it could only have been God.

Little was I aware that God was grooming me for my journey to walk with Him in life. He had prepared me to see that no matter how cruel others may be to jeer me for what I know is right, that I should stand my ground. One day sooner or later the officials will come to confirm that I stood on the right end of the field.

I said all that simply to say this. I know that I may appear to my brothers or sisters in Christ as if I may be standing in left field pertaining to my spiritual or political point of view. Of course there are some exceptions, who understand how God works and know within his or her spirit that I am on His side and He is own mines. To those, who don't know it is a matter of the Holy Spirit to affirm.

Let me say this and I shall say no more. My word is my bond. If any man or woman is of his or her word, then mark my word that he or she is of God. If we were to honor our own word, then God, being of His word, will honor us too. Conversely, if you come across persons in your life that care not for his or her own word, then consider how it is possible for him or her to care about God's word.
