The Prodigal Princess By K. A. Graaf I am a princess and my Father is a King. He gave me everything He had, the best of everything. On a very dark day I told my Father something that I knew would break His heart I told Him I was leaving the palace. My decision tore Him apart His countenance changed as I gave Him the sad news. He let me go, even though it was something he wished I didn’t do. I waved Him goodbye and I left my Fathers arms, to pursue the world and all its pleasures and charms. Everyday He looked for me hoping I would come home, Tears fell from His face, as He thought of me out there alone. I danced in the dark and was seduced by all the world had to offer, I became so enticed that I forgot who I was, the King’s daughter. In time the dancing turned to mourning, my tears fell like rain The world had its way with me and caused me so much pain. I didn’t know where to turn or what to do. I had fallen from grace. I didn’t dare go back home. I was a mess and a disgrace. I thought my Father would strike me in His anger because of what I had become. I thought He would punish me severely for all that I had done. I was cold, hungry and lost. My garments I had soiled with sin, Going home was the only option to get me out of the darkness I was in. I journeyed home ashamed, broken and bruised, Guilty, condemned and accused. I bowed my head as I humbly walked home to face my Fathers scorn Trying to find all kinds of excuses of why I disgraced the family in to which I was born. My Father saw me coming from a great distance away He had waited, watched and hoped to see me every single day I was amazed when I saw Him coming with a big smile on His face He wasn’t angry; He was full of love, mercy and grace. He didn’t ask what I had done or punish me for my sin He scooped me up in His arms overjoyed that I had come back to Him. “I’m sorry Father, please take me back, I promise I will be good, “ I said He just looked at me with compassion and began to shake His head. “My dear daughter, my sweet princess, you don’t have to be good for me to love you. I will love you unconditionally no matter where you go or what you do. I am so overjoyed that you are now home, It broke my heart knowing you were so lost and alone” My father dressed me in a robe of righteousness and gave me a gold ring. He put shoes on my feet and restored back to me, everything. I came home into my Fathers arms, enveloped by His love, mercy and grace I am a princess, forever in my Fathers protection and everlasting embrace. |
