They were formed/active in the 90s, broke up for awhile and got back together in 2000 and have been together since. They've got a good sound, a friend of mine compared them to The Pixies and Slint, I've never really listened to either one. I downloading 7 of their albums, and they've got some fantastic stuff. Some of my favorites are: "Shreds of Boa" "Lump" "Tiki Lounge God" "Tremelo Blooz" "Naked and Famous" and others. How do you guys feel about them? |

THE JANITOR

It seems like I just had a brief discussion with someone about The Presidents Of The United States Of America a few days ago. That's weird. I mean I can't tell you the last time someone mentioned the band and for some reason they are mentioned twice in the same week. Very strange. Yes their debut album is a little simple but kind of fun. They had odd lyrics; almost in a Primus sort of mentality. Though I am not sure which band came first. Songs about bugs and cats and peaches are just a few but all were delivered in a somewhat backcountry, Appalachian Trail, redneck rock fashion like few other bands have done. They tuned down their guitars, as we noted in the other discussion but the energy is often turned up. These guys were having fun singin' these little dities. Their songs were not too long but just long enough and not quite punk rock that they could be distinquished from many bands at that time. But the interest in this style perhaps, faded and a list of other bands came along so that soon we forgot all about The Presidents. They had a short bit of recognition restyling the theme song to the Drew Carey show and I don't think I have heard anything from them since 1997 called. I do have their version of "Video Killed The Radio Star" and just their first album so perhaps I am not the person to be too critical of their career. |

I've become a fan of their album Pure Frosting which is basically a collection of b-sides. Though I enjoy their debut album immensely. Also, they're back on the scene these days, though I guess only people who used to listen to them know they're back? |
