The strongest man... in the world!
|
That's the real title. Here's more info on the book and the rest of the songs on the CD. Everyone needs to find a copy of this book. The only other book I can compare it to is The Real Frank Zappa Book. |

Goddamit Skeeter, shut the hell up! I already made an old music thread like this but it was ignored . Anyways, The Anthology Of American Folk Music is the most complete and essential introduction to folk music that exists. Anyone even remotely interested in folk music in its early forms (all recordings are from the 20s and 30s) should get it. Its brilliant.

It's hard to reccomend what to get for Woody. In terms of LP's, Dust Bowl Ballads is definetely his best, but you might find the subject matter a little repetitive (yes, all the songs are about a dust storm in the 30's). In terms of compilations, theres no easily digestable 1 or 2 disc ones that really suffice. The Library Of Congress Recordings I guess could do as a starter; that or you could just go for the Asch Recordings, which is 4 volumes/discs long. Go one volume at a time I'd say. Yeah. |

And he was the OG drummer for Jefferson Airplane! And since I was obsessed with Jefferson Airplane in the 9th grade, this makes him awesomer! |

I'm a folk fan, I much prefer folk music from countries other than America though. Hungarian folk music is the shit. |

Joni Mitchell is AWFUL. I haven't heard enough Baez to judge, but she's pretty good on the Dylan tracks I've heard her sing on. |

Have you heard the songs she did at Woodstock? I have like 3 I think. I don't care for her...and I didn't know she was in the game like years before Woodstock. |

I've heard Joni's voice when she was young (1971) and her voice doesn't sound that great....and people say it's beautiful? =/ |

I'm a huge fan of Arlo too. I really dig his stuff, and I love his and Pete Seegers live stuff together. His "City of New Orleans" is really good, although I'm not fond of a lot of his other recorded covers, especially Mr. Bojangles. I prefer the originals or other covers much better. I think Joan Baez is amazing, she's also one of my favorites. My favorite Dylan song's she does are "Don't Think Twice, it's all right" and "Farewell Angelina". She changes up the chord progression in some parts of those songs from the original, which makes it sound really good. I think she has an amazing voice, and she has a great style she puts on her songs. She contributed a huge amount to Bob Dylan's career as well, people should at least appreciate her for that. As for Joni Mitchell...I never got into her either. I don't know what it is, I just never could get into her stuff. It must be that "Big Yellow Taxi" song she did. I really dislike that song. |
