This topic ought to be interesting. This is where you can post and discuss an artist's opinion on another artist. You can just post quotes, audio clips, videos, or whatever or discuss, whatever. I'll go first with some harsh words... Elton John on Madonna |

Pete Townshend on The Beatles: "If you listen to only the backing track of The Beatles without their voices, it's flippin' lousy." I'm sure I've seen moving footage of this somewhere, but I can't find it on Youtube. |

It's on The Kids Are Alright. But The Beatles' early stuff is eons better than anything The Who did early in their career! |

Dave Davies on the Legends of British Rock John Lennon: "I think he was probably a very pained guy. I think he would have thrived in the '90s. I'm sure there's a lot of unfinished business he'd like to be involved in now" Mick Jagger: "I don't know what to say about him....I'm always wondering with Keith and the others are doing. Brian was the heart of the band, him and Keith. Mick was great because he was a showoff and you have to have a showoff in a great rock and roll band. He's like Ray - 'Me, me, me and me and nobody else is invited." Pete Townshend: "I've always had a lot of respect for Pete because he was one of the few professional rock and roll people who have openly acknowledged that his work was influenced by the Kinks. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for him." Eric Clapton: "He was always very quiet and I never got to know him too well. He's always been one of the very finest white blues guitar players. But I wouldn't go so far as when people said he was God. That was crap." Jeff Beck: "A crazy guy, a wild man. What would he have done if he'd never picked up a guitar? I hate to even think about it. I really do love his playing." About the Doors and All Day and All of the Night "That one is the most irritating of all of all of them," he fumed. "The other night I did a show where I played "All Day and All of the Night" and stuck in a piece of 'Hello, I Love You.' There was some response, there were a few smiles. But I've never understood why nobody's ever said anything about it. You can't say anything about the Doors. You're not allowed to." This is my favourite, Ray Davies on Mick Jagger: I admire Mick Jagger for being a very good exponent of PR. He really knows his PR. I think the PR has overshadowed the music in recent years, but you've got to give him credit . .. . It's Disneyland. You're not going to see the Rolling Stones really - you're going to see Disneyland. |

Richard Ashcroft on 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' after losing composer credits: "This is the best song [Mick] Jagger and [Keith] Richards have written in 20 years." Chris Martin from Coldplay on 'Bitter Sweet Symphony': "This is probably the best song ever written..." |

None other than in what I guess is his yearbook picture. 'I Don't Wanna Grow Up' is a song from his Bone Machine. |

Yeah, I bet he wasn't thinking of that particular period when he wrote the song.
Interview from Humo, a Belgian magazine. He also praises Pharrell (Williams, I suppose), saying he'd love to work with him, but can't afford to (!). Longer quotes, translated to the best of my extent (the last one isn't strictly about an artist in particular, but it shows his interest in hiphop): "'Drop It Like It's Hot', the duet with Pharrell Williams, is an incredible song, especially because of what they're doing with the language of rock 'n roll: it's like they're re-inventing minimalism. I'd love to work with Pharrell, because everything he touches is superoriginal. But such a collaboration will always remain a dream, because I don't have 50,000 dollar - his price for one track." "Snoop Dogg is, above all, a great poet. I love what he's doing with the English language: I hear things I never thought were possible. I don't care for all the mothafuckering, and some gangsta rap is flat out barbaric, but it's infinitely more original than the rest of the top 40-stuff." "Some grooves [of hiphop] are brilliant - at first I'm amazed, then after a while I think: "Shit, why didn't I think of that". When I need ideas, I listen to hiphop. And okay, I know hiphop music videos are often sexist, en their lyrics very nasty. I remember one that roughly stated: we on the East Coast are not like the West Coast, we shoot people in daylight. Then I think, fuck off you idiot, how can you be proud about that? But that's no reason to remain blind about the musical innovation of hiphop. Besides, there's a man in the White House who breaks the law every single day. There isn't much difference between the American government and most rappers: they both have guns, they both have big cars, and they both earn money off drugs." |

Here's one of my favorites: “Everyone’s a load of crap. They are trying to be somebody else, and they ain’t being themselves. Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party? Load of crap, load of crap. Posers, rubbish.” -Keith Richards |
