Alternative is such a lame term. Alternative to what? My butt playing an accordion?

I'd buy it.

Fuck, that reminds me. I need to buy Mark Prindle's CD's.

This may sound odd, but quite a few songs on Locust Abortion Technician sound like blues metal after several hits of acid.

Especially "Pittsburgh to Lebanon."

Oh and I still need more blues, I really dig what I have (SRV, b.B. King and Muddy Waters).

I'm at "beginner level" in blues - I bought two best of's, one Howlin' Wolf and one Muddy Waters. Post-war Blues, in your terms. I like blues as background music (to, say, a game of poker), though I'll give it an active listen once in a while. Next up would be Willie Dixon, because, well, he wrote pretty much all of it.

I'm more familiar with Led Zeppelin's bluesrock, Janis Joplin, the 60's blues you've mentioned. But in the end, the pre-60's and 60's blues should balance out.

Balooze eh? Good stuff, gewd stuff. Refer to Zach's post for what to listen to but beware, do not dive head first into 8 disc boxsets and expect your attention to be held for the entirety of it. Start off listening to the songs you know that artists covered/stole and see what the original was, then expand your listening.

Blues is by far one of the most influencial music of all time, and i think underrated (or under appreciated) genre today. Blues is the root to most American music, and is a very beautiful form of music if given a chance.

B.B. King

Howelling Wolf

Buddy Guy

Lil'Ed and The Blues Imperials

Charlie Love

those guys are some of my all time favorite blues musicians. Oh what you can do with three chords.

My favourite blues artists are Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, Big Bill Broonzy and Sonny Boy Williamson.
Rock n' roll derived from it anyway so most of my favourite bands took a lot of the blues into their music, such as The Lovin' Spoonful, The Animals and the great Yarbirds. I love the genre.

I'm thinking of downloading Chet Atkins and Leadbelly since Ray and Dave Davies lovrd listening to them while they were kids, so I have to give them a chance.

I should warn you for comparing the Stripes to that stupid wanna-be band. I mean, I know the White Stripes imitate a lot, but they have more talent than Wolfmother.

I'm just saying they get that boring after a while. As in, every album having the same type of thing going on.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers lol.
