If we could just join hands..

Blues has weaved its way into my musical tastes lately. B.B. King is by far my favourite from the artists I've heard. Followed by Buddy Guy, then SRV. So, discuss blues with me...someone... |

I love Stevie Ray Vaughan, mainly because I grew up listening to him on the radio, cassettes and CDs. Excellent guitarist, a few years ago, watching him play "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" made me want to switch from playing bass to guitar. Much other blues doesn't interest me besides the '60s blues based groups like Zeppelin and Cream. |

You like the white man blues then....Cream and Zep have bluesy music, but their lyrics aren't too much....Zep's at least. |

Love Will Tear Us Apart, Again

Blues is the root of all music today. You can find it almost anywhere. Pre-War Blues: Early, accoustic blues usually played and sung by a sole musician (but not always, because some of these artists incorporated other instruments in a vaudeville or boogie-woogie style). Great acts include Blind Willie McTell, Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Leadbelly, W.C. Handy, Skip James, Arthur Crudup, Memphis Minnie, Bessie Smith, Blind Willie Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Blind Willie McTell and Son House. Post-War Blues: This is early blues that primlarily utilizes the electric guitar. Artists include Howlin' Wolf, B.B. King, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Elmore James, Freddie King, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon,T-Bone Walker, John Lee Hooker, and Jimmy Reed.. Blues from the 60's-onwards: Blues in the later decades, not always preformed by African Americans. Examples include Taj Mahal, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, the Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Janis Joplin, Canned Heat, Johnny Winter, Ry Cooder, Otis Rush, Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buddy Guy. |

I like the blues quite a bit. SRV is amazing, and I like some B.B> King songs, and I like the occasional Zeppelin blues (Since I've Been Loving You) and all kinds of blues from Clapton. I'm not hugely into blues I guess, but it's still good. |

Interestingly enough, a lot of you who aren't into blues might actually know and alove a lot of blues songs. Groups like Cream, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and more covered a lot as blues songs. A lot of early rock classics like "That's Alright Mama" by Elvis Presley, were rock and roll versions of blues songs. Also, some acts today cover alot of blues songs, namely the White Stripes. |

Seriously though, The White Stripes are okay but them being labeled as "alternative", as in changing, is complete trash. Their shtick is getting old and people still love it. They're decent, but about as interesting as Wolfmother after a while. |

I should warn you for comparing the Stripes to that stupid wanna-be band. I mean, I know the White Stripes imitate a lot, but they have more talent than Wolfmother. |

I'm just saying they get that boring after a while. As in, every album having the same type of thing going on. |

Notice my utter sarcasm? I thnk you're confusing sound with genre. And I disagree about the White Stripes. Each album they've gotten better and more expansive, especially the last two. Different instruments and styles besides their stripped-down hard rock. Experimental and minimilistic whilst poppy at the same time. Jack's lyrics range from the familiar love story to the insanly bizarre, and I love it. But yea, I don't get the genre term "alternative" anyway. I |

the white stripes are god's gift to music and i put them up there with the great '60s and early '70s bands. i would never call them "alternative." most music of that genre is watered down and lame. the white stripes are straight up rock music, unlike almost everyone around today. to compare them to wolfmother is insane. the white stripes are of a quality that is the highest of the high. it kind of blows my mind that they even exist. |

Alternative is such a lame term. Alternative to what? My butt playing an accordion? I love Mark Prindle. |
