I was wondering if anyone knew if there were some kind of Pink Floyd-biography-DVD-thing out there. Like The Beatles Anthology. If anyone know, please tell me. Thanks!

Not a complete history of Floyd like Anthology, but there is "The Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd Story" which talks about their beginning days with Syd and him dealing with his mentail illness and then after he left the band. It was made a couple years before Syd died.

I've watched most of that on youtube before. Pretty good documentary I thought. Syd Really was a fascinating guy, and his story is pretty tragic. It's good to hear what his friends had to say about him.

Yeah, I mean, I knew what happened to Syd, but I've never seen that before and the way they did it all and the way it was said and this and that, it's pretty sad.

I'd just buy Nick's autobiography on the group, Inside Out. Awesome book.

There really isn't anything too great, to be honest. Even Nick's book is pretty crappy, although probably the most accurate account of Pink Floyd's history out there. Pink Floyd were never professionally documented all too well during their peak, so I doubt you're going to find anything of Anthology caliber.

Still, if you're interested in knowing about Floyd, Nick's book, Live at Pompeii, the Syd documentary, and VH1's Classic Albums episode of Dark Side are all essentials.

The forum Britbanger.
Also, I guess it isn't really relevant now, but a couple of nights back, there was an awesome Floyd documentary type thing on tv documenting Floyd from the Syd Barrett days up to The Wall Live. That was really cool to watch.

“My technique is laughable at times. I have developed a style of my own, I suppose, which creeps around. I don't have to have too much technique for it. I've developed the parts of my technique that are useful to me. I'll never be a very fast guitar player. I don't really know what to say about my style. There's always a melodic intent in there.”-Dave Gilmour.

I'm guessing they'd never heard of their last three studio albums, or last two live albums, not to mention their (admittedly rather crappy) reunion performance in 2005.

If he's talking about the documentary I watched - The Seven Ages of Rock, episode: "White Light/White Heat" on BBC2 - the focus point was the evolution of rock music into a stage show, the mix with other art forms. They used Pink Floyd as a reference point because they've shown an evolution, but only used the relevant bits: from Syd Barrett-years light shows to the pompous stage shows of The Wall (The Velvet Underground, David Bowie, Genesis and Roxy Music were mentioned along the way).

Next up: punk. So it's probably just that those last three studio albums don't fit in the story they're telling.
