It's been better than 2006, at least.

Anton's rough mixes of My Bloody Underground have validated 2007 for me in terms of rock music.

In terms of hip hop and pop stuff that you hear on your local hits radio, 2007 has definitely been better than the last few years.

I can only think of five so far.

1. Radiohead - In Rainbows
2. Boris With Merzbow - Rock Dream
3. Okkervil River - The Stage Names
4. Rush - Snakes & Arrows
5. Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond

And there's where I start drawing blanks. I honestly haven't liked all too much I've heard this year, aside from the albums I've listed.

The Stage Names is way better than In Rainbows!

Oh, and listening to the new Residents album now. It's pretty moody and nice so far, but the acting is so unintentionally funny, it kinda ruins the potential scariness of the album.

K. Voice of Midnight finished about 5 minutes ago.

What a disappointment after my beloved Tweedles. The whole "acting" bits that string the album along are SO FUCKING AWFUL; Completely devoid of any sense of emotion and often times unintentionally funny. The music here sounds like a more stripped down version of Tweedles, and if it weren't for some of the longer, less dialoguey tracks, I'd write it off as a failure.

I give it a 6. It's okay; Some of the music on this one is really good, and the story itself is very interesting, but the acting completely ruins it.

1. the willowz- chautauqua
2. the avett brothers- emotionalism
3. bright eyes- cassadaga
4. the white stripes- icky thump
5. the redwalls- self-titled

i'm pretty sure the new blanche album would be #6 if i had enough money to buy it... i still haven't gotten around to buying the new hives and devendra banhart albums, either. but i don't know how much i would even like the new devendra, anyway. i barely listened to "cripple crow." "oh me oh my" will always be my favorite. the only other album i have from 2007 is the new neil young because i got it for free when i ordered concert tickets... it sucks.
