This topic is just to discuss the current year's releases, upcoming albums, and reviews of everything. I think the year has been rather strong for releases. My favorite album of the year thus far is (*hides from Aaron*) Arcade Fire's Neon Bible, which to me was an extreme improvement from their debut. It's filled with catchier songs and it stuck with me a lot more instantly, not really a weak song on it. A very strong release and the first I'd give a 5/5 for the year. Another excellent album just released two weeks ago is the Arctic Monkeys' follow up to their absolutely fantastic debut (one of my favorite records of all-time), titled Favourite Worst Nightmare. It's not as instant as the first, but after many repeated listens, it's definitely an amazing album. A lot more diverse than their first record, from the almost surf meets Death From Above 1979-esque "Brianstorm" to the charming "Fluorescent Adolescent" (the albums best) and the ending track "505", with a keyboard part taken right from The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly. It'll probably top Neon Bible in due time, but it's truly a wonderful album, and I'd give it a 4.5/5 at this time. Nine Inch Nails released what I believe is a much better album than their last, and probably my favorite of the few I've heard, this year, titled Year Zero. The album is just a small piece of a massive game, with pieces appearing everywhere in the NIN world. And it's really a great album, filled with many more minimalistic things, reminding me a lot of the wonderful The Downward Spiral. Plus it could evolve into something more, as frontman Trent Reznor says "I've basically written the soundtrack to a movie that hasn't been made yet". An epic album and one of the most interesting sounding ideas lately, I'd give the album a 4/5. I could go on, I usually get a new album every Tuesday to listen to the current sounds of the music I enjoy, but I'll leave the rest up to you. |

This year has been really good so far. New albums from Rush, Dinosaur Jr., Modest Mouse, Wilco, and Do Make Say Think are all fantastic. There's a few more albums that I'd like to hear that I haven't got around to yet. The only album that really disappointed me was the Stooges' new one. |

There's also a new Bright Eyes album that my friends really like, but I haven't listened to. The only album I have from this year so far is Some Loud Thunger by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, but I have heard the song Dashboard from Modest Mouse's new one, and it's pretty cool. |

I enjoyed Bright Eyes' new album, though it wasn't his best (I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning is impossible to top anyway). The first single off the album, "Four Winds", was really great, and the first five or six songs are good, but the album seems to drag on a bit. Modest Mouse's new disc was great, but it's pretty hard for those guys to make a bad CD. Unlike many of their fans, I think Good News For People Who Love Bad News is one of my favorite records of this decade, so again, to follow it up with a better record is impossible. Radiohead's LP7 will probably blow my mind, and I'm really excited because it's my first record I'm anticipating by them since I got into them after their last studio album. Also, Coldplay denied the rumor of a new album by the end of the year, but their website is closed down for the time being and I have a feeling it's because they're changing it in anticipation of a new record. |

Three of the four living Floyds allegedly have new albums on the way. That is all. |

I like Floyd a lot too, but there are more good bands out there now than just the old bands coming out with new stuff. |

McCartney made a killer album in '05, probably one of my favorites of the decade... but yeah, I'd agree with you there. |

Listened to it today while I was eating lunch, it's such a lovely album. |

It is. I wish he had done more to develop his style, but with an album as great as Apocrypha, it's hard to complain. |

Well, it isn't out until the 22nd, but it has leaked. It's very mellow and prettyful sounding.

I haven't heard a single album released this year. Radiohead's new album is all I'm really looking forward to, and I guess Paul's album might be good too. What else am I missing out on? |
