I haven't read about Van Der Graaf Generator's H To He, Who Am The Only One being a concept album, but to me it seems it is, with the concept being selfishness, loneliness and identity (I can't think of a word that sums all that up). The title relates to it in that Who Am The Only One expresses a very self-centred attitude, while H To He refers to fusion in the sun, which could mean that although the sun is the only body in the solar system that fuses hydrogen to make helium, there are billions upon billions of others in the universe. Here's how each of the tracks relates to it: Killer About a sea creature that kills all other sea creatures around it, which is shown to be a metaphor for people killing emotion around them and showing how it isn't beneficial to not empathise with others. House With No Door About a very lonely man who doesn't interact with anyone else at all, and through this is very depressed. The Emperor In His War Room Pretty much about someone who is in charge of a nation at war, but who is isolated from his people by his immense power, and nobody really cares for him. Lost Pretty self-explanatory, it's about someone who finds themself lost after losing someone they loved but never showed affection for. Pioneers Over C A more literal form of isolation, which can be interpreted metaphorically, about people who go exploring space and can never return to earth. They are confined to themselves not emotionally, but by light years of empty space. What do other Van Der Graaf Generator fans think? |

It could be, but then again most Van Der Graaf Generator albums are done in the same dark mood so I don't really think it's intended to be a concept album. |

Now 100% more avant-garde than Ivan!

Possibly, although it is a poorly constructed and laughable one, as is the case with most prog rock outfits. Listen to the muzak, mang! Odd time signatures and saxermaphonez! |
