I'm speechless..like I don't know whether to take this guy seriously or not..his writing style, especially when discussing some of the songs early on is just..sickening..I guess he just doesn't get it..which is a pity

I thought it was funny too. Music isn't serious business, I can laugh at the stuff I love.

It wasn't humorous (to me), but I'm not going to completely disagree. I will give him a couple points: This album is overrated, it doesn't rock at all, and it has no concept or even consistency. All his other points are lame. So the Beatles are bad if they sympathize with the parents of a runaway girl? You weren't there to experience the absolute infatuation with the album when it came out, so it's bad? Nah.

1. So it has to 'rock" to be good? Pfft.

2. It's VERY consistent, I think, in the way that it links songs through fading and sound clips. No song sounds out of place at all, I wouldn't change the tracking order at all.

3. I won't even touch the overrated part.

Oops, my mistake.

Whilst the album as a whole doesn't rock, I think the the two Sgt. Pepper tracks can be pretty rocking. (As well as the guitar solo in Good Morning Good Gorming.

No, let me go to the article.
Quote:

"The Psychedelic Sounds of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators," "The Velvet Underground and Nico," "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" by Pink Floyd, "Are You Experienced?" by Jimi Hendrix, "Pet Sounds," "Fifth Dimension" by the Byrds and "Forever Changes" by Love are all stronger, less contrived, more inventive and more moving albums than "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." They all rock harder, too. To say that they don't bring back the period the same way as the Beatles' alleged masterpiece is irrelevant.

Ok, maybe that is what I meant. But when I said it's inconsistent, all the songs just sound odd together. I can record a bunch of sounds of me smashing various things against walls and clip it together with nice clips but it won't be consistent (well, bad example, so shut up).
But the only songs I'd say segue nicely are the last three. Within You Without You into When I'm Sixty-Four? Ergh. The album is just a variety of completely different songs. It's good but it's not a masterpiece. Plus a lot of the songs just try too hard to be avant-garde.
