Who's Next>>>>>>>>>>IV

I would consider one > if it weren't for four of the worst or most boring songs imaginable.

IN SUCCESSION.

Boring? Have you listened to the musicianship on them? You are a Who hater.

There's nothing inspiring about "My Wife" John sings like a drunk, so you can't understand a word he's saying. Keith, also presumably drunk, can't stick to one goddamn beat during the whole song. John only sings about weapons and sleeping in places that aren't his bed. I think it's just dumb and uninspiring.
"Getting In Tune" and "The Song is Over" do have great musicianship, but that doesn't mean they're not boring. The former is just a sappy pile of muck with annoying backing vocals, while the latter is a stupid boring 6 minute pile of crap. "The song is over, I'm left with only tears..." ok, what? "I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow," yer, you stick to that. I usually take the prevoius three songs to go do something useful, such as go get a snack, or write a novel. The instrumentation is good, it's just not inspiring at all.
"Going Mobile" is half and half. I have to be in the mood for this. The keyboard at the end is good, but the vocals are just terrible. They're so weak and unmasculine. I can feel my testicles cowering and shrinking when I listen to this song. It's just hard to listen to. The rest of the song is fine (not as good as the rest of the album, but still better than the preceding three) but they should have let Roger sing it.

You're going to bombard the ass out of me for that, but I really don't care. You and I clearly have different tastes. You could say the same thing about Led Zeppelin songs, but I like how Zeppelin does their music more.

Well, for one Keith doesn't hold the beat for the Who. If you knew much about them, you'd know that either John on bass or Pete on rhythm guitar held the beat. That allowed Keith to go crazy with fills and such. You don't really understand musical theory or how the Who ticked at all.

Actually, of the few things of this band I know in depth, I knew that. I remember when a friend suggested the Who to me he said "The drummer is crazy, but they have this awesome bassist to make sure he doesn't go off the deep end,"

Something like that. It's still obnoxious and makes the song hard to listen to (as iff the vocals weren't enough)

If by obnoxious you mean drumming that you can only dream of ever doing, yes.

I'd dream of making a music album, not a 45 minutes of drum fills so loud and distracting you can't hear the rest of the music.

Leave it to a Can wanker to think Ege Bamyasi is better than The Who or Led Zeppelin.

Leave it to you to make stupid judgements about stuff you don't know about.

I thought CSC said it first, but I was wrong.

It was a knock on him because he (or, at least I thought he did it) said basically the same thing about the rest of the board.

You know what I mean. It's hard to focus on the music when you have a helicopter landing proceding in the studio.

I believe in doing what I can.
Seriously.. do you have your equalizer set to Dance or Techno or something? The drum hardly over-powers any of the other instruments or vocals. I think saying helicopter is a bit of an exaggeration. Maybe you should give that album another listen.

Agreed. Keith was a group drummer. With him the group came first, and even if he was drumming to loudly Pete would've either done a retake or had it balanced it out in the mixing process.

Ok, it's not as loud, but (to me) it's just too overpowering. It just takes away from a few of the songs. You can't focus.

Aside from the four I listed, I think all the rest of the songs are fantastic. But those four just put me off.

So you have the complete inability to relax and listen to everything going on? Well at least you're focusing on Moon I guess.

It shouldn't be your business how I listen to him. I don't gripe about you being able to stand him, so knock it off.

i knew this board was more who biased than zeppelin, but i didn't think the results would be quite this one-sided.

it kind of hurts me to read through this thread, i love my zeppy. don't tell me there hasn't ever been a time where you just had to let the led out. they rule. jimmy and pete are probably my two favorite guitarists(hendrix might be over pete), but jimmy's playing is just too good for townshend's still awesome, but slightly more basic playing. the who obviously have a better rythm section, but that's just because they arguably have the two best individual players at both drums and bass of all time. zeppelin's rythym section is NO slump. bonham's playing reminds me of a controlled keith. jones is an awesome bassist, along with all his other overall musicianship stuff. plant's vocals i think sound cooler than roger's. (i always seem to love the singers who sound like they just got kicked in the balls). when comparing the two bands by every little aspect, all the little aspects are close. but when they all add up, zeppelin just wins in so much more aspects that it's a definite choice for me.

i know i know, it's really weird that i just called them "my zeppy" and i should probaby just take it off right now, but im going to take a chance. you only live once you know

edit: i have never been bothered by keith's playing just because it's too good. most of the time his little fills give a nice build up to like a loud part in a song or something. it just gets you going.
anyone for tennis?
