I'm the taxmaaaaaan

why is everyone using the word raucous so much?

i think these two bands are very much on the same level, they are alike in almost as many ways as they are different

Quote:

That was not because of racousisity! That is because Keith Moon was a clumsy drunk and was constantly falling and drooling over his kit! Keith Moon couldn't alcohol without drum! Proven fact!

Besides, the guy choked on his own vomit! What a wussy way to die!

Can you imagine the scene in Hell?!

Satan: So, uh, how did you die?
Keith Moon: WELL I WUZ DRINK OI OI MATE N U SEE DA ALKEEHAL IT WENT CRIKEY TRAVEL DOWN THE WRONG PIPE IT DID AND I GOOD DONE CHOKED ON ME OWN VOMIT!

WUSS!

that's probably the most ignorant thing i've ever read
anyone for tennis?

Woof's post is called "him being on some sort of med and bored out of his mind". Take it seriously and you're about as sane as he is right now.

And Scott, I'm not whining , I'm debating.  Why are all disagreements on here considered whining to you.  I love Led Zeppelin too, but I do believe The Who were raucous.  When I Can See For Miles was released, it was so raucous for the time that it shocked Paul McCartney which prompted him to make Helter Skelter as noisy and raucous as possible.

Ok, point granted. You're not whining. And the Who were, in fact, raucous. But what I meant when I talked about Led Zeppelin was just something that the Who is not, it's hard for me to explain.

And the person who said "I can See For Miles" was "loud and dirty" Pete Townshend. That album pretty much made him foam at the mouth because he loved it so much, he told everybody about how great he thought it was and cried when it didn't reach #1 on the charts. I'd compare it more to the Velvet Underground, because of the wailing guitar and the fact that while everything around him is sounding completely unorganized, Daltrey is calm and keeps his composure.

Obviously Led Zeppelin adopted a different sound. You don't have to have the same sound to be raucous.
My friends call me Keith, but you can call me John.

The whole board wanted to ban him for doing exactly what he's doing now 4 months ago, so don't be suprised.

racious (n.) a really annoying word that people on ASR should stop using. example: Keith Moon means racious in Japanese because he was racious as racious can rasiatly be!

Too bad Helter Skelter owns The Who's most repetitive song ever.

Dean has spoken. Therefore, Helter Skelter is superior.

Dame'n skippie!
Just cuz macca specializes in ballads, doesnt mean he cant write a real rocker!!

I think you're missing the part where Paul is my favorite Beatle... Also, the only reason why I used raucous so much is because that was the original word used. That way we were all on the same page.

I'd put both bands at about the same level. I prefer the Who to Zeppelin, but to objectively say who's better...I'm not sure.

That's pretty tough to answer, I'm gonna go with Zeppelin because I think they were more consistently a band producing amazing music than the Who. Then again, I think the Who's high point was stronger than Zeppelins and they had more diversity.

Yeaahhh, I'll go with Zeppelin, cos they're losing.

P.S. The Who in the 60s is massively underrated on here. Back in the day, they were one of the best singles bands ever AND produced three classics: The Who Sings My Generation, The Who Sell Out and Tommy. Definetely prefer it to their 70s work, by a mile.

Oh by the way Woofie, you clearly don't know your history of the Who. Keith died from an overdose of pills.

i couldn't tell you who is "technically" better
but i prefer The Who
I can listen to them anytime, as opposed to Zeppelin, where i need to be in the mood to listen

and Who's Next is like one of my favorite albums of all time. so yeah.
When it rains and shines, it's just a state of mind

I voted for Led Zeppelin. The Who have never really impressed me as much as I thought they would. I was a bit dissapointed by them to be honest. I still like The Who a lot, they've just never done for me what they seem to do for others, and that annoys me in a way. Maybe it's just time I expand my Who collection.

To me, they are equal. They both had powerful albums, had a good long run and made good music.
