Many of us love this one song so much by at least each of the bands we listen to, that we consider to be the best song that the band ever did. We stand by it and enjoy the hell out of it. If there is one song that you think completely defines the band you are talking about, what is it?

For me, the first is Pink Floyd's epic song Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I consider this song to be extremely powerful and simply breathtaking song. Rick's keyboard on this song has to be his absolute best in his entire career. The epicness of the song is also one of the reasons why I think it defines Pink Floyd.

I'd agree with that for Floyd

The Beatles: A Day in the Life (the epitome of John and Paul being able to complete each other so well, and ends one of the most epic albums ever)

The Who: Won't Get Fooled Again

Zeppelin: Babe I'm gonna Leave you (BABYBABYBABYBABYBABYBABYBABY) or some song where they ripped the chords and shit oh wait that's like half of them lololol k i'm done lol

The Velvet Underground - Heroin, such a crazy awesome song

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water

I agree with you so far on The Who. It's quite an amazing song and can define them even if it's overplayed (out here at least)

It's good when a greaat artist falls down on the list, because that's proff that there are even greater bands than that.

Anyway, "Roundabout" defines Yes and even the whole seventies progressive rock scene.

I think "Famous Last Words" really shows off what kind of talent My Chemical Romance have. Though they were labeled as emo when they got popular, this song is hardly that. It has Gerard's best vocal, a catchy as hell guitar riff, amazing solo and it's just a dark, epic song.

Queen's is obviously "Bohemian Rhapsody".

Pink Floyd doesn't really have one sound.

Early Syd-led Floyd: Interstellar Overdrive

Experimental early Waters-led Floyd: Atom Heart Mother (just because it's my favourite song ever)

The band in its prime: Echoes or Shine On You Crazy Diamond, or even Dogs at a push

Waters-dominated Floyd: I can't pick, Waters is more album-oriented than song-oriented

Post-waters Floyd: Marooned

Of what I've heard of these bands/artists (which in some cases is one album):

The Beatles: Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds as a representation of their sound, although Revolution 9 is a personal favourite

Fast, rockin' Led Zeppelin: Whole Lotta Love

Slow Led Zeppelin: The Battle Of Evermore (just because it owns Stairway To Heaven)

Van Der Graaf Generator: A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers

Deep Purple: You Keep On Moving

David Bowie: I can't pick here, probably either It's No Game, Ashes To Ashes or Teenage Wildlife

Jean-Michel Jarre: Equinoxe part 4

Syd Barrett: Gigolo Aunt

Roger Waters: As I said before, he's more album-oriented than song-oriented

Rick Wright: Satellite

David Gilmour: Castellorizon

I think when it comes to Bowie, a song that shows his vocal talent like "Starman" or "Life On Mars?" would be good.

I wouldn't say A Day In the Life or Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds are songs that fit The Beatles... A song more like All You Need Is Love (although I like it less than both of them) is more fitting to them.

That's fine. I know them all pretty well.
But I know sometimes I must get out in the light.
Better leave her behind with the kids, they're alright.

One song that completely describes Ozzy for me, is Crazy Train. I think you all know why.
