ROBOTS!

Every single Beatles song I've heard had really boring bass. Plain and simple. |
![]() I mean, if you play like me, you had better have your own band. Nobody wants that amount of participation from a bass player. - John Entwislte | |

Well I have heard a lot of Beatles songs Thaddeus. I don't think of Paul as much of a bassist. Plus did you know how I said "from what I hear"? I've never heard the guy so I can't say myself he's good. I don't say someone's awesome or bad unless I've heard more than a few songs from them. |

What songs have you heard? Yellow Submarine and Hey Jude? Listen to The Beatles and Abbey Road and tell me he's not a good bassist. If that's not good enough, listen to some of his solo stuff with Wings. I'm not going to say he and Lennon are the best singers of all time, I'm not going to say Harrison is not the best guitarist ever, and I'm not going to say Starr is the best drummer ever (although he is underrated), I'm not going to say McCartney is a mediocre bassist. That said.

Ive heard lots of mccartney's solo stuff, and there are some real kick ass bass bits in a lot of them. You cant judge really by the beatles because it was a group of four musicians who all wanted to play, so not just one of them would stand out. well george would cuz he was lead, but a lot of their songs were more focused on the words, the music was there to move it along. True its really great music, but they were more lyric men. With McCartney it differs from album to album. HE can play most of the things he has on his albums, and which ever he is playing at the time is whats gunna have the emphasis. It just depends on what your listening to from him. Get back wasnt half bad, imo. The white album is full of good stuff. Driving rain has some great ones, also flaming pie! Flowers int eh dirt, off the ground.....People can can only be as good as the other musicians around them will allow them to be. IF your in a group where everyone wants to be recognized, no one is gunna allow someone else to shine far greater then them. |

Hate me, do it and do it again.

McCartney is underrated. He basically took all the boring basslines, trashed them, and made it into a real instrument. Listen to "Paperback Writer", it's one of the greatest basslines ever. |

Yeah, McCartney is ridiculously underrated. This is coming from someone who doesn't have his tongue up Paul's ass. |

Actually if anyone in The Beatles is a Top 5/10 player at their instrument it's Paul on bass. He laid down some of the more innovative lines in history. |

Since Squire isn't going to get added at all, and the "other" option is for teh freeks, I voted for John Paul Jones. I think Entwistle is a better bass player, but I think Jones' basslines fit in a lot better with the songs. For example, the (completely improvised) funk bass on "The Lemon Song" Plus Led Zeppelin II is one of the best bass album I own. |

We have our tongues in Geddy's nose, though. Believe me... they would both fit. On the topic of bass players, you have to give Glenn Cornick, Jethro Tull's first bassist, some credit for his performance on "Bourée" from Stand Up. It's pretty outrageous. |
