It seems like every band I'm getting into these days are somehow influenced by The Byrds. Now, I know nearly zilch about these guys, except that they have a fantastic cover of "Mr. Tambourine Man", a vomit-inducing hit entitled "Turn! Turn! Turn!", and Husker Du did a cover of "Eight Miles High".

So, are these guys worth getting into? What would experts here recommend?

P.S. The main reason why I'm asking is because my favoritest person in the whole wide world, Mark Prindle, needs OUR money. If you click the links at the bottom of his review pages, you'll be redirected to Amazon. A percentage of your purchase will go to Mark Prindle and Mark Prindle needs money and stuff to feed his doggy. Mark Prindle likes The Byrds muchly.

Here's a link to his site:

"You're really not falling for any of this, are you?

Sigh.

Come on, you're just gonna buy crap on there anyway. Why not give some of your money to ME? I'm a gentleman!

Here, look! See that old lady? I'm helping her across the street. Because I'm a gentleman!

So buy something or I'll throw her off a bridge, fuckin' old bag." - Mark Prindle

A vomit inducing Turn, Turn, Turn? ;_; Oh, and Mr. Tambourine Man's a fantastic album.

I Don't Mind Other Guys Dancing With My Girl.
That's fine. I know them all pretty well.
But I know sometimes I must get out in the light.
Better leave her behind with the kids, they're alright.
The kids are alright.

Sorry. I hear it every time I go to the supermarket. It's nauseating now.

I highly recommend Mr. Tambourine Man though.

I don't like the Byrds too much but this thread rules for Mark Prindle plugging.

They're my fourth favourite band, and they've been there for quite a lot of time. In my own humble opinion they're abosulety greatm they had a cool, authentic sound, their work on covers was always interesting giving their own view and something new to it, their own material it's even better specially what McQuinn and Clark had to offer, this last one particulary had a relatively unknown career as solo but it's truly quite amazing, I got a lot of his albums and they're really good.
I don't know nearly anything about your musical taste but if you didn't like Turn Turn Turn I find it hard you'll like them but still you can give them a shot. If you don't like country then don't get anything by them after Sweetheart of the Rodeo. If you enjoy folk then I'm pretty sure you'll like most of their work before Seetheart OF The Rodeo, their covers of some Dylan songs are even better than the originals, imo.
Anyway I'd suggest getting The Essential Byrds, it's a pretty good compilation and the album that got me into them.

Younger Than Yesterday is a really brilliant album that I was surprised by. The only other album I have of their's is Fifth Dimension, and while I haven't really gotten into it as much as Younger Than Yesterday, it's still a really enjoyable listen. Apart from those two releases, I've only heard their famous covers like everyone else. I recommend you get Younger Than Yesterday as soon as possible.

Thanks for all the recommendations.

I'm not a huge fan of compilations over ninety minutes, so I'm going to get Mr. Tambourine Man.

Get that, Fifth Dimension, and Younger Than Yesterday.

And if you like country, get Sweetheart Of The Rodeo but only if you like country. I don't much like the record myself but hey, you might.

Yeah, that wasn't the best way for me to listen to a group for the first time considering I've had to put up with listening to country my whole life and hate it.

Awesome. Once you're finished listening to it, make sure to come back here and voice your opinion on it. I'm interested in knowing what you think of them.

I will probably like them. They've influenced Husker Du and R.E.M., two of my favorite bands EVAR.
