There's still better drummers out there. And that's a very odd way of thinking. |

How so? I consider Jimi Hendrix the best guitarist, but he's been "surpassed" technically. However, those guitarists I don't think are as original and creative or pour as much emotion into that instrument as him. Anyone can learn every scale with time, but it takes an even greater talent to come up with something completely new that no one's ever heard before. |

Keith Moon never came up with something completely new or original. That's not the greatest comparison. |

>_> Are you kdding? The bombastic style of drumming, him replacing the high-hate with another cymbal, his chaos and sheer energy. All these things made Moon's drumming unique.Name one person before Moon who drummed like he did. |

Considering he was in one of the "first" rock bands, you can't really compare. Way to trap someone in a corner there, buddy. And there have been drummers that were WAY more energetic and energetic than Keith ever was. Hell, there are drummers out there that literally sound like drum machines. I'd easily say that they're better than Keith ever was. And let's not forget the underground scene, where artists have done alot more experimentation with drums than Keith ever did as well. And pull it off exceptionally well. I'd say they're better too. I'm not hating on Keith Moon, I think he's a fantastic drummer. But he's not the best. |

Except not. Rock had been around fo0r 10 years ebfore that. And drumming wa sa big part of blues. I didn't trap myself into a coner, you did by assuming rock drummers were the only ones that mattered. And by drummers who literally sound like drum machines, meh. That's the echnical things I'm taking about. And in the underground scene there are a hell of a lot of great drummers. Also, lots of drummers today expose just as much energy as more. However, Moon did it first and I think the best. I'd rather hear Moon do a Moon drum fill then someone who's technically better do the same thing. All I want to be as a drummer is in Moon. Someone who's original, energetic and puts his love into his craft. |

Notice my quotations in first, most people believe that rock happened in the 60's, and I believe this topic was about rock drummers, was it not? And has anyone every told you you'd be a fantastic editor for Rolling Stone? What, with your "They were the first so obviously they're the best" argument? You'd rather hear Keith Moon do a drum fill? If you didn't know the artist and the drummer was just as good, how could you tell the difference? And I think I get what you mean now. By best, you mean favorite. Two different things. And if that's not the case, then you're just hopeless. |

"And has anyone every told you you'd be a fantastic editor for Rolling Stone? What, with your "They were the first so obviously they're the best" argument?" That's is definitely not always the case. Elvis Presley was one of the first rcok artsits; does that mean he's the best? No. And I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, but I'd rather listen to original band X then lame copy of X. And yea I am putting personal opinion, here, but I'm trying to be somwhat objecive here. But yea the argument is done here. You think Moon is good, so I;m happy.

That's one of the dumber things I've ever heard on this board. I respect opinions, but it is a fact that he was extremely innovative. When their debut came out, drumming purists were taken back by his thrashing, out of control, yet magnificent drumming. Keith is everything you are taught not to be if you take formal lessons, yet he made it work. He pounded the drums harder than anyone, yet was still able to hold everything together while maintaining great speed. He has some of the most memorable fills in history, and although he preferred not to solo often, he had some of the most memorable solos as well like Cobwebs and Strange. If anything, Bonham was insanely influenced by Moon's style. After all, we all know Led Zeppelin wanted Moon in the first place. |

Please tell me you've read the biography on Keith called Moon, Andrew. If not, buy it. It's like 800+ pages and it never gets dull. |
