Be sure and tell her...
My name is Floor. Well, it's not really Floor, but my real name conjures up images of fucked up queens and southern belles or Tennessee Williams heroines, but ANYWAY. My name is Floor, and I love the Grateful Dead. I can't help it. They fill me with a soaring feeling that fills my soul and curls my toes and makes me shake my butt in happiness. I would have followed them, probably. I could follow the new Jerry-less Dead, but it wouldn't be the same. No Jerry? No Pigpen (well, that would be okay, since he was only with them for like, 6 years)? No Brent Mydland? No thank you. I know you're out there. In little holes of ASR, like the munchkins in the Wizard of Oz, with your rose garlands and hackeysacks and bootlegs from shows spanning 20 years that some old hippie gave you in exchange for some rolling paper and maybe a snog. This is your place.

I claim this land in the name of TERRAPIN.

I know. I mean, I know you tried to get me help, with all the Talking Heads and other cool music, but the lure is just too strong.

Jerry Garcia's guitar is just a horrible bitch goddess.

Look out!
I've been to a David Grisman (the Mandolin player who played with the dead) concert in Santa Cruz. That's about all the experience I have had with the Dead.

I am more of a headhead though. (Radiohead head...get it? )

Let him gvet you other music, but stay with the Dead! They're a superb group, and given a bad rep because of their crappy-latter material and their annoying super-fans. But during their prime they were amazing.

I like the later music. :( Brent Mydland, man!

The only time when they were truly unlistenable was during the Keith & Donna era.

The spaciness in much of their live stuff is an acquired taste, but I've always ranked "American Beauty" and "Workingman's Dead" as favorites. In fact, I think I'll put my "Workingman's Dead" LP on the turntable when I get home. It's been a while!
